The U.S. withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action: Economic Aspects and Security Threats for the EU and Iran

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce pojednává o odstoupení USA od Společného komplexního akčního plánu neboli íránské jaderné dohody a ekonomických a bezpečnostních dopadech, které odstoupení spolu s hrozbou sekundárních sankcí ze strany USA přinesly Evropské unii a Íránu. Po odstoupení USA se Evropská unie, Írán i další signatáři rozhodli pokračovat ve spolupráci a u dohody setrvat. V teoretické části se práce věnuje sankcím, mezinárodním institucím a spolupráci, jmenovitě neoliberalistickému přístupu a konstruktivismu jakožto teoretickým perspektivám, které operují s pojmem mezinárodní spolupráce a mezinárodní instituce. Empirická část nejdříve pracuje s postoji EU a Íránu k odstoupení a představuje kroky, které se aktéři rozhodli učinit pro upevnění vzájemného obchodu a spolupráce. Dále se práce zabývá riziky, která v souvislosti s odstoupením USA od dohody vznikají na Blízkém východě a tím ovlivňují bezpečnost EU. Zároveň se ukazuje, jak tento krok ovlivňuje spojenectví EU a USA a spolupráci i na Blízkém východě.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is dealing with the U.S. withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (also known as the Iran Nuclear Deal) and the economic and security consequences of the withdrawal and the threat of the U.S. secondary sanctions for the EU and Iran. The EU and Iran together with other signatories remain in full compliance with the obligations and continue in the cooperation. In the theoretical part, the thesis is focused on sanctions, international institutions and international cooperation, namely in the scope of neoliberalism and constructivism. In the empirical part the thesis firstly deals with the reactions of the EU and Iran to the withdrawal and it presents steps carried out to strengthen their relations and business. Secondly, the thesis addresses the security aspects in the Middle East emerging after the withdrawal and its consequences connected to the security of the EU, alongside with the question of the US-EU alliance.
