Art assets creation and animation for Newron application

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá návrhem aplikací pro uživatele se specifickými nároky. Cílem této práce bylo vytvořit vizuální a interakční prvky pro terapeutický software Newron, jehož obsah je vytvářen v úzké spolupráci s psychology z Psychologického ústavu Filozofické fakulty Masarykovy univerzity. Tato práce pokrývá celý proces vytváření herního prostředí, postav a grafického uživatelského rozhraní od návrhu až po samotnou realizaci. Pro hlavní postavu hry, Newrona, byla v rámci této práce vytvořena řada animací, které byly následně propojeny v animačním systému Mecanim vývojového prostředí Unity. Cílovou skupinou aplikace jsou děti s poruchou autistického spektra, což výrazně limituje vzhled celé aplikace a animace postav. V práci je také diskutován návrh aplikace pro další do budoucna uvažovanou cílovou skupinu - děti s ADHD.

Abstract:

The main aim of this thesis is to introduce the process of creating art assets to the field of the development of applications for users with specific needs. This thesis also aims to explore the differences in interaction components for such users and apply these principles to the design of the application. This text covers the whole process of creating an environment, characters and graphic user interface elements from the concept art to the actual realization of the Newron application. The content of this application was created in close cooperation with psychologists from the Department of Psychology at the Faculty of Arts at the Masaryk University. So the design discussed in this thesis corresponds to the initial requirements targeting the specific group of end users. The proposed environment and characters would be useless without appearing alive so this thesis introduces also the main aspects of character animation, the art of timing and discusses some widely used tools for animating objects. The implementation part of this thesis is based on character animation in Unity and brings out the essence of creating animations for usage in Mecanim state machine.
