Examining mental health strategies for employees with perceived mental health disabilities in the human healthcare industry

Abstract:

Sektor lidského zdravotnictví je stále více ovlivňován problémy v oblasti duševního zdraví, včetně vyhoření, emočního vyčerpání a bariér v hledání pomoci způsobených stigmatizací. Tato studie zkoumá, jak jsou strategie v oblasti duševního zdraví implementovány a prožívány zaměstnanci s vnímaným duševním postižením ve zdravotnických organizacích. S využitím kvalitativního, interpretativního přístupu a polostrukturovaných rozhovorů studie aplikuje model pracovních nároků a zdrojů (JD-R model) jako svůj analytický rámec. Zjištění odhalují, že vysoké pracovní nároky, jako je pracovní zátěž, nedostatek personálu a emoční expozice, konzistentně převažují nad dostupnými zdroji. Obavy o důvěrnost a roztříštěné systémy podpory zároveň omezují ochotu zaměstnanců vyhledat pomoc. Studie dochází k závěru, že udržitelná zlepšení v oblasti duševního zdraví vyžadují systémovou integraci zdrojů do každodenní praxe, nikoli reaktivní intervence zaměřené na jednotlivce. Nabízejí se doporučení podložená důkazy pro zdravotnické organizace, které usilují o vytvoření inkluzivního a psychologicky bezpečného pracovního prostředí citlivého vůči stigmatizaci.

Abstract:

The human healthcare sector is increasingly affected by mental health challenges, including burnout, emotional exhaustion, and stigma-driven barriers to help-seeking. This study examines how mental health strategies are implemented and experienced by employees with perceived mental health disabilities in healthcare organizations. Using a qualitative, interpretivist approach and semi-structured interviews, the study applies the Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) model as its analytical framework. The findings reveal that high job demands, such as workload, understaffing, and emotional exposure, consistently outweigh available resources. At the same time, confidentiality concerns and fragmented support systems limit employees‘ willingness to seek help. The study concludes that sustainable mental health improvements require systemic integration of resources into everyday practice, rather than reactive, individually focused interventions. Evidence-based recommendations are offered for healthcare organizations seeking to create inclusive, stigma-sensitive, and psychologically safe workplaces.
