Gender differences and stereotypes in consumer behaviour

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá zkoumáním genderových rozdílů a stereotypů ve spotřebním chování. Cílem práce bylo zjistit faktory ovlivňující utváření spotřebního chování žen a mužů a následně odhalit rozdíly v jejich hodnotách a preferencích. Práce také identifikovala oblasti s vyšší mírou sblížení ženských a mužských spotřebních rolí a současně také ty, ve kterých se naopak jejich projevy liší. Cíle bylo dosaženo za pomocí analýzy trhu a především vlastního dotazníkového šetření, kterého se zúčastnilo 271 žen a 261 mužů. Na základě dotazníkového šetření bylo identifikováno 5 významných segmentů. Z výsledků šetření vyplynulo, že i když dochází k postupnému sbližování chování žen a mužů, stále jsou v dnešní společnosti zažity určité stereotypy, a to i na poli spotřebního chování. V rámci spotřebního chování žen a mužů existují určité rozdíly, přičemž se stále dají identifikovat produktové kategorie, kterým věnuje jedno z pohlaví více pozornosti.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with the investigation of gender differences and stereotypes in consumer behaviour. The aim of the work was to find out the factors influencing the formation of the consumption behaviour of women and men and subsequently to reveal the differences in their values and preferences. The work also identified areas with a higher degree of convergence of female and male consumption roles, as well as those in which, on the contrary, their manifestations differ. The goal was achieved with the help of market analysis and, above all, our own questionnaire survey, in which 271 women and 261 men participated. Based on the questionnaire survey, 5 significant segments were identified. The results of the survey showed that even though there is a gradual convergence of the behaviour of women and men, certain stereotypes are still experienced in today's society, including in the field of consumer behaviour. There are some differences in the consumption behaviour of women and men, while it is still possible to identify product categories to which one gender pays more attention.
