The burden and stress of parents of children with celiac disease

Abstract:

ABSTRAKT Cíl: Hlavním cílem výzkumu bude popsat a porozumět zátěži a stresu rodičů dětí s onemocněním celiakie, zjistit způsob zvládání stresu a zátěže a současně poukázat na možnost předcházení těmto jevům. Metodika: Pro výzkumné šetření problematiky diplomové práce byla použita kvalitativní metoda. Sběr dat byl realizován pomoci polostrukturovaného rozhovoru a pro zpracování obsahu byly údaje řazeny do příslušných kategorií a podkategorií. Výběr deseti respondentů byl záměrný. Výsledky: V souvislosti s analýzou dat výzkumu byly vytvořeny následující základní kategorie: 1. začátek onemocnění, 2. léčba, 3. stres a zátěž, 4. informovanost. Z výzkumného šetření vyplynulo, že rodiče stres pociťují již na samotném začátku onemocnění a také při gastroenterologickém vyšetření. Jistou sociální zátěž vnímají v souvislosti s vyloučením dítěte ze školního kolektivu, stravováním ve školských zařízeních, v restauracích, na školních výletech a při cestování. Finanční zátěž pro rodiče pak představuje cena bezlepkových potravin. U copingových strategií bylo prokázáno, že u rodičů převažoval aktivní způsob zvládání zátěže a stresu. Závěr: Na základě zjištěných skutečností navrhuji rodičům se více informovat o onemocnění celiakie, což může pomoci předcházení zátěže a stresu. Rodičům navrhuji využívat podpůrné systémy a sociální skupiny na internetu, kde mohou získávat nejen potřebné informace, ale také cenné zkušenosti. Zdravotníkům zároveň doporučuji, aby se i oni sami zapojili do těchto sociálních skupin a mohli tak ještě více porozumět pacientům. Domnívám se, že výsledky výzkumného šetření tak mohou přispět k většímu porozumění zátěže a stresu rodičů dětí s chronickým onemocněním celiakie.

Abstract:

ABSTRACT Aims: The main aim of the research will be describing and understanding the workload and stress of parents of children with celiac disease, to find out how to manage with stress and workload and at the same time to point out the possibility of preventing these phenomena. Methodology: It was used a qualitative method for the research investigation of the diploma thesis. Data collection was carried out using a semi-structured interview and for content processing were sorted data into appropriate categories and subcategories. The selection of ten respondents was intentional. Results: In connection with the analysis of research data, the following basic categories were created: 1. onset of the disease, 2. treatment, 3. stress and burden, 4. awareness. The research showed that parents feel stress at the very beginning of the disease and also during the gastroenterological examination. They perceive a certain social burden in connection with the exclusion of a child from the school staff, meals in school facilities, restaurants, on school trips and when they travel. The financial burden for parents is the price of gluten-free foods. Coping strategies have been shown to be an active way for parents to cope with stress and strain. Conclusion: Based on the findings, I suggest to parents to be more informed about celiac disease, which can help prevent strain and stress. I suggest to parents that they use support systems and social groups on the Internet, where they can gain not only the necessary information, but also valuable experience. At the same time, I recommend that healthcare professionals participate in these social groups themselves so that they can understand patients even more. I believe that the results of the research survey can contribute to a greater understanding of the burden and stress of parents of children with chronic celiac disease.
