White lies in partner relationships: Attachment and rejection sensitivity role

Abstract:

Tato práce zkoumá vztah mezi bílým lhaním v partnerských vztazích, vazbou a citlivostí vůči odmítnutí u lidí starších třiceti let. Zjišťuje dále souvislost délky vztahu a výskytu bílých lží a rozdílů mezi muži a ženami v používání těchto lží v partnerském vztahu. Výzkum byl prováděn online a zapojilo se do něj 174 respondentů (81,6 % žen) ve věku 30 až 71 let (M = 44,45, SD =9,3). Výsledky analýzy pomocí lineární regrese naznačují, že vyšší míra vazbové vyhýbavosti souvisí s vyšším výskytem bílých lží v partnerském vztahu, na rozdíl od vazbové úzkostnosti a citlivosti vůči odmítnutí, kde se souvislost neprokázala. Rovněž se ukázalo, že vazbová vyhýbavost je lepším prediktorem bílého lhaní než vazbová úzkostnost, což kontrastuje s původním očekáváním. Dále bylo zjištěno, že délka vztahu pozitivně souvisí s výskytem bílých lží v partnerském vztahu. Mezi muži a ženami nebyl nalezen rozdíl ve využívání bílých lží ve vztahu. Výsledky práce jsou porovnávány s dřívějšími zjištěními a teoretickými koncepty. Na závěr jsou zmíněny limity práce a jsou předloženy návrhy pro další výzkumy.

Abstract:

This thesis examines the relationship between white lies in partner relationships, attachment and rejection sensitivity in people over thirty years of age. It also esta-blishes the of association between relationship length and the prevalence of white lies and differences between men and women in the use of these lies in partner rela-tionships. The research was conducted online and involved 174 respondents (81,6 % women) aged 30 to 71 (M = 44,45, SD =9,3). The results of the linear regression ana-lysis suggest that higher levels of attachment avoidance are related to higher preva-lence of white lies in partner relationships, in contrast to attachment anxiety and re-jection sensitivity, where no relationship association was shown. Also, attachment avoidance was shown to be a better predictor of white lying than attachment anxiety, which contrasts with initial expectations. Furthermore, relationship length was found to be positively related to the occurrence of white lying in a partner relation-ship. No difference was found between men and women in the use of white lies in the relationship. The results of the study are compared with previous findings and theo-retical concepts. Finally, limitations of the work are discussed and suggestions for further research are offered.
