Abstract:

The Trail of Tears stands as an unhappy chapter in American history, symbolizing the systematic displacement and suffering endured by Indigenous communities at the hands of the United States government. This thesis aims to analyze how the perception of this event changed over time. Focusing on the opinions that the public shared towards this event in the nineteenth century. Drawing on a range of historical sources and scholarly analyses, this study examines the public view in the 19th century and puts it in contrast with the modern point of view. Key findings reveal the divergent narratives surrounding the Trail of Tears, highlighting the opposition to the |Indian Removal campaign. Revealing that the public in the nineteenth century sympathized with the Cherokees. By critically engaging with diverse perspectives and historical realities, the study contributes to a deeper understanding of this pivotal moment in American history and its ongoing implications for Indigenous communities. By interrogating multiple perspectives and engaging with diverse voices, we can work towards a more inclusive interpretation of history, fostering greater empathy, understanding, and reconciliation in the present day.

Stezka slz je nešťastnou kapitolou amerických dějin, která symbolizuje vysídlování a utrpení Amerických Indiánů, kteří díky této historické události přišli o své domovy. Tato práce se zaměřuje na to, jak se v průběhu času změnilo vnímání tohoto dění. Zaměřuje se na názory, které k této události sdílela veřejnost v devatenáctém století. Tato studie, čerpá z řady historických pramenů a odborných analýz, zkoumá pohled veřejnosti v devatenáctém století a porovnává jej s pohledem moderním. Klíčová zjištění odhalují odlišné příběhy kolem Stezky slz a zdůrazňují opozici vůči Jacksonově kampani. | Odhaluje, že veřejnost v devatenáctém století sympatizovala s Indiány a snažila se odsunu předejít prostřednictvím debat, dopisů a peticí. Kritickým zapojením různých pohledů a historických skutečností studie přispívá k hlubšímu pochopení tohoto klíčového momentu v americké historii a jeho přetrvávajících důsledků pro domorodé komunity. Zkoumáním různých úhlů pohledu a zapojením se do různých hlasů se můžeme dopracovat k inkluzivnější interpretaci historie, která podporuje větší empatii, porozumění a smíření v současnosti.
