Parenting style and autonomous motivation for learning in 2nd stage primary school students

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce bylo zmapovat vztah podpory autonomie ze strany rodičů a autonomní motivace k učení u žáků staršího školního věku. Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 174 respondentů základních škol ve Středočeském kraji a Praze ve věku 12–15 let (m = 13,17), z toho bylo 78 dívek a 96 chlapců. Byl použit kvantitativní výzkumný design a zvoleny metody Škála vnímání rodičovské autonomní podpory (P-PASS) a Dotazník akademické seberegulace (SRQ-A). Ve výzkumu byla zároveň pomocí faktorové analýzy ověřována struktura nově přeložených metod. Tato studie potvrdila souvislost podpory autonomie ze strany matky s autonomní motivací k učení u dětí (r = 0,30; p < 0,01). Zjištěna byla také korelace podpory autonomie ze strany matky se školním prospěchem (r = 0,31; p < 0,01) a podpory autonomie ze strany otce se školním prospěchem (r = 0,24; p < 0,01). Výsledky práce mohou být využity v oblasti školní psychologie a pedagogiky.

Abstract:

The goal of this master thesis was to explore correlation between autonomy-supportive parenting and autonomous motivation for learning in 2nd stage primary school students. Sample consisted of 174 respondents from which 78 were girls and 96 were boys with age ranging from 12 to 15 (M = 13,17) who were coming from primary schools from Central Bohemia and Prague in Czech Republic. Qualitative research design was used and the methods Perceived Parental Autonomy Support Scale (P-PASS) and The Self-Regulation Questionnaires (SRQ-A) were selected for the research. In the research project the structure of the methods was assessed by factor analysis. The present study confirmed a connection of autonomy-supportive parenting by mother with autonomous motivation for learning (r = 0,30; p < 0,01). A correlation was also found for autonomy-supportive parenting by mother with children´s school outcomes (r = 0,31; p < 0,01) and autonomy-supportive parenting by father with children´s school outcomes (r = 0,24; p < 0,01). Results of this work might be applied in fields of educational psychology and pedagogy.
