Rushdie s "Haroun and the Sea of Stories" and its Czech translation: a comparative discourse analysis

Abstract:

Diplomová práce srovnává anglický originál a český překlad knihy Salmana Rushdieho Hárún a moře příběhů. Provede srovnávací textovou analýzu originálu a překladu. Zaměřuje se na překlad vlastních jmen a použití obrazného jazyka, zabývá se přenosem humoru ze zdrojového do cílového jazyka a způsobem, jakým jsou vytvořeny postavy a jak hovoří. Diplomová práce nabízí pohled na literární dílo ve dvou jazycích, analyzuje a srovnává básnické prostředky anglického a českého jazyka a popisuje rozdíly mezi originálem a jeho překladem.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis compares the English original and Czech translation of Salman Rusdie´s book Haroun and the Sea of Stories. It carries out a comparative discourse analysis of the original book and its translation. It focuses on the translation of proper names and use of poetic language, deals with humour transfer from the source language to the target language and explores the way characters and their speech are created. The diploma thesis offers an insight into a literary text in two languages, it analyses and compares the poetic means of English and Czech languages and depicts the differences between the original and the translation.
