Patient´s consent to the presence of students

Abstract:

ABSTRAKT Cíl: Cílem práce bylo zjistit, jaké mají pacienti názory na přítomnost studentů během jejich ošetřování, kolik pacientů souhlas udělí, zda jsou pacienti informováni o průběhu praxe studentů a jak se staví k mladým mužům v roli ošetřovatelského personálu. Metodika: Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 150 pacientů pěti oddělení Fakultní nemocnice v Ostravě (dále jen FNO), kteří byli požádáni o vyplnění dotazníku. Z navrácených a řádně vyplněných dotazníků vznikl vzorek 121 pacientů. Dotazníkové šetření proběhlo v měsíci prosinci na standardních odděleních chirurgie, interny, urologie, gynekologie a otorinolaryngologie (dále jen ORL). Výsledky: Celkem 115 ze 121 pacientů s péčí studentů během své hospitalizace souhlasí. Práce studentů je hodnocena kladně. Výzkum ukázal, že přítomnost mladých mužů v rolích ošetřovatelského personálu zatím vzbuzuje smíšené reakce. Ne všem pacientům je přítomnost mužů příjemná. Za pozornost stojí skutečnost, že více než polovinu pacientů o průběhu praxe studentů nikdo neinformoval. Závěr: Práce studentů je pacienty hodnocena vesměs kladně a většina dotazovaných s péčí studentů souhlasí. Rozpaky vzbuzují mladí muži v pozicích ošetřovatelského personálu. Abstract:

ABSTRACT Objective: The aim of this study was to determine how the patients views the presence of students during their care, how many patients gave its approval, whether patients are informed about the practise of students and how to deal with the young men in the role of nursing staff. Methodology: The research sample consisted 150 patients of five departments of the Faculty hospital in Ostrava (the FNO), who were asked to complete a questionnaire. Returned from a correctly completed questionnaires, became sample of 121 patients. The survey was carried out in December on standard units surgery, internal medicine, urology, gynecology and otorhinolaryngology (ENT hereafter). Results: 115 of 121 patients agree with the student´s care during their hospitalization. Student´s work is evaluated positively. Research has shown that the presence of young men in the roles of nursing staff still arouses mixed reactions. Young men presence as a nurse isn´t so agreeable all patients. Note worthy information is more than half of patients aren´t informed of student´s practise. Conclusion: Patients value the work of students largely positive and most of respondents agree with student´s care. Embarrassment raise young men in positions of nursing staff. Attention should be given to the lack of awareness among patients about the practise of students.
