Electricity generation in Germany: transformation & perspectives

Abstract:

Diplomová práce řeší transformaci německého energetického mixu v oblasti výroby elektřiny. SRN v současnosti podstupuje kroky, které výrazným a unikátním způsobem mění celý sektor energetiky. Dochází k odklonu od původní kombinace fosilních paliv a jádra s cílem maximálně se spoléhat na elektřinu vyrobenou pomocí obnovitelných zdrojů. K roku 2022 plánuje Německo kompletně odstavit jaderné elektrárny a následně v 30. letech i ty uhelné. Tato rozhodnutí činí země v souladu s novou energetickou koncepcí Energiewende přijatou v roce 2011. Současně má toto nové složení energetického portfolia přispět ke splnění environmentálních závazků vyplývajících z Pařížské dohody a umožnit Německu dosáhnout klimaticky neutrální ekonomiky, čímž naplní dlouhodobé cíle Evropské unie. V rámci práce je analyzována jedinečnost této nové německé energetické cesty, její hlavní principy a význam ve srovnání s vybranými světovými ekonomikami. Zároveň jsou na příkladu německé transformace diskutovány principy energetické bezpečnosti s ohledem na teorie diverzifikace zdrojů a dosažení energetické nezávislosti.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis main scope is the evaluation of transformation of the German energy mix in the field of electricity generation. Germany is currently undergoing steps that are significantly and uniquely changing its entire energy sector. There is a withdrawal from the original combination consisting of fossil fuels and nuclear power in order to rely as much as possible on electricity produced from renewable sources. By 2022, Germany plans to completely shut down nuclear power plants and, subsequently, coal-fired ones in the 2030‘s. These decisions are in line with its new Energiewende energy policy adopted in 2011. At the same time, this new energy portfolio is intended to meet the environmental commitments of the Paris Agreement and enable Germany to achieve a climate-neutral economy, thus meeting the European Union's long-term goals. The thesis furthermore analyzes the uniqueness of this new German energy policy, its main principles and significance in comparison with selected world economies. At the same time, on the example of the German transformation, the principles of energy security are discussed with regard to theories of diversification of sources and achieving energy independence.
