The Influence of the Feuerstein's Method on Development of Cognitive Skills of Adolescents

Abstract:

Feuersteinovo instrumentální obohacování je program kognitivní intervence a úspšn se užívá jako nástroj pro zlepšení potenciálu uení a kognitivních funkcí u dtí i dosplých. Instrumentální obohacování se užívá jako nástroj kognitivního obohacování pro dti i dosplé se specifickými potebami. Základní pedpoklad programu Feuersteinov metod strukturální kognitivní modifikovatelnosti a zkušenosti zprostedkovaného vyuování je, že inteligence je dynamická a mnitelná, ne statická a nemnná. V této práci popisujeme rozvoj kognitivních funkcí, pístupy k inteligenci, specifické poruchy uení a Feuersteinovu metodu instrumentálního obohacování. V našem výzkumu jsme zjišovali, zda instrumentální obohacování ovlivní kognitivní funkce u dospívajících s poruchami uení. Dti z experimentální i kontrolní skupiny byly ve vku 14 16 let a navštvovaly 9. roník základní školy. V každé skupin bylo 10 dtí s rznými poruchami uení. Experimentální skupina navštvovala kurz Feuersteinovy metody jednou týdn bhem školního roku (celkem 7 msíc), dospívající z kontrolní skupiny tento kurz neabsolvovali. Ob skupiny jsme testovali ped a poté, co experimentální skupina absolvovala kurz Feuersteinovy metody. Pi pretestu a posttestu jsme použily tyto psychologické testy: Ravenovy progresivní matice, WISC III, Rey Osterriethovu figuru a Reverzní test. Dti z experimentální skupiny se v posttestu zlepšily oproti pretestu více, než dti ze skupiny kontrolní a to v performaních subtestech WISCu III, testu Ravena, také zmnily strategii kresby v Rey Osterriethov figue na vyšší stupe. Psobením Feuersteinovy metody instrumentálního obohacování došlo k pozitivním zmnám v testech, které sytí fluidní inteligenci. Mžeme hledat možnou souvislost mezi intstrumentálním obohacováním a zlepšení kognitivních schopností jako abstrakce, dedukce, zhodnocení sociálních situací, prostorová pedstavivost. Také jsme pozorovali zvýšení jejich vnitní motivace k uení, rozvoj metakognice, instrumentální obohacování dtem pomáhá najít jejich vlastní zpsob, jak se uit. Proces zprostedkovaného vyuování klade tedy velké nároky na uitele a všechny, kdo s programem pracují.

Abstract:

Feuersteins Instrumental Enrichement is a cognitive intervention program and has been succesfully used as a tool for the enhancementof learning potential and cognitive functioning of children and adults. Instrumental Enrichment (IE) has been used as a tool of cognitive enrichment for individuals with special needs. The fundamental assumption of the program based on Feuersteins theory of Structural Cognitive Modifiability and Mediated Learning Experience is, that intelligence is dynamic and modifiable, not statistic or fixed. In this thesis we decribe development of cognitive functions, approaches to intelligence, specific learning disabilities and the Feuersteins method, Instrumental Enrichement. This study examined, if would Instrumental Enrichment manifest cognitive functions by adolescents with lerning disabilities. Adolescents of nineth class from primary school (age 14-16) were split into experimental and control groups. In each groups were 10 participants with diferent specific learning dificulties. The experimetal group visited Instrumental Enrichment program once a week during the one school year (seven month), the control group didnt. Both of them were tasted before and after the exprimental program of IE. We used following psychological tests: Ravens Standard Progressive Matrices, WISC III, Rey Osterrieth figure and Reverz test. Adolescents from experimental group had better results at tests compared to control group. They improved in performence part of WISC III, in Raven Progressive Matrices and they also changed strategy of drawing at Rey Osterrieth figure to higher level. We can say, that fluid intelligence, strategies of thinking and that cognitive skills can be transfered to subjects if children are exposed to IE. Thus, the IE program seeks to increases their motivation, develops students metacognition, and in word helps students how to learn. The training of teachers is obvisiously very important to the succes of this program. But we recomend to expose IE for longer rather the shorter period of time.
