Inquiry-based learning in education at high school

Abstract:

Tato práce řeší problematiku badatelsky orientované výuky jako výukové metody na středních školách. Cílem této práce je zjistit postoj žáků střední školy k badatelsky orientované výuce v praxi. Zaměřila jsem se na žáky všech ročníků střední školy a porovnávala jsem jejich vztah k badatelsky orientované výuce. V praxi jsem ověřila celkem 4 laboratorní chemické pokusy vybrané vždy dle probíraného učiva v daném ročníku. Postoj žáků jsem ověřovala pomocí interview a dotazníků. Dotazníky a interview jsem vyhodnocovala dle jednotlivých ročníků. Po vyhodnocení dat jsem dospěla k závěru, že vztah k badatelsky orientované výuce závisí nejvíce na věku (čím mladší, tím hravější). Dále závisí na tom, zda žáci mají s tímto stylem výuky kladnou předchozí zkušenost. Badatelsky orientovaná výuka je testovanými žáky přijímána jako metoda zábavná, ale zařadili by ji spíše jako metodu doplňkovou k výuce klasické či jako dobrovolné odpolední kroužky. Do běžné výuky by ji zařadili částečně.

Abstract:

The thesis looks into the issue of inquiry-based learning as a teaching method in secondary schools. The aim of this work is to determine the attitude of high school students of inquiry-based learning in practice. I focused on students of all grades in the high school and I compared their attitude to the inquiry-based learning. In practice I demonstrated 4 laboratory chemistry experiments in total, always selected according to the discussed subject matter in a given year. I checked the attitude of pupils through interviews and questionnaires. The questionnaires and the interviews have been evaluated according to individual years. After data´s evaluation I have concluded that the attitude towards inquiry-based teaching depends mostly on the age (the younger the playful). Furthermore it depends on whether students have positive previous experience with this style of teaching. Inquiry-based learning is accepted by tested pupils as an entertaining method, but they would have rather ranked it as a complementary method for classical teaching or as a voluntary afterschool. They would include it into lesson partially.
