The Style of Secondary School Textbooks (Analysis of Czech textbooks of English in reflection of past and future)

Anotácia:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá analýzou stylu nové edice učebnic anglického jazyka pro střední školy Maturita Solutions pre-intermediate jako vzorku stylu, jenž reflektuje státní maturitní zkoušku, a zároveň si všímá významného směřování výuky směrem k podpoře na internetu. Cílem této studie je ukázat na změny ve struktuře učebnic vzhledem k přípravě na určitý typ zkoušky a primárně skutečnosti, že učebnice směřují k plně internetové verzi sledujíc proměňující se způsoby studia. Analyzuje také a porovnává proces, jakým prošel vývoj učebnic před rokem 1990 a po něm, i vývoj v přípravě budoucích učebnic za úzké spolupráce s nakladatelstvím Oxford Press jako největším reprezentantem na trhu učebnic. Podklady pro tuto studii byly získány s pomocí kanceláže Oxford Press ELT Office, v učebnicích a s pomocí internetu. Demonstrují vývoj stylu učebnic před více než dvaceti lety vzhledem k současnosti s nahlédnutím do edic připravených k vydání, reprezentujících směřování budoucího vývoje.

Abstract:

The thesis is comcerned with analysis of the style of a new edition of the Maturita Solutioms pre-intermediate textbook of English for secondary school students as a sample of a style reflecting the new State Graduation Exam, while considering the significant trend toward online learning support. The aim of this study is to show modifications in style regarding preparation for a certain exam and primarily the fact the textbook gradually merges into the fully online version following the changing ways of studying. It will also analyse and compare the style in its process concerning the years before and after 1990s as well as the development of this process in the preparation of future textbooks in close cooperation with the Oxford Press publishing house as our largest representative at the textbook market. Data for this study were obtained with the help of the Oxford Press ELT office, in the textbooks and support on the websites. These data demonstrate the developmnet in the style comparing textbooks two decades older to the current material with an insight into forthcoming overture; in addition they represent the trend in which teaching will proceed in the future.
