Obesity, depression and physical activity in high school children

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zaměřuje na problematiku obezity a duševního zdraví u dětí na středních školách a jejich spojitosti s úrovní pohybové aktivity. Cílem práce bylo zjistit prevalenci obezity mezi středoškolskými studenty a analyzovat možný vztah mezi obezitou a symptomy deprese. Dále se práce zabývala hodnocením dodržování doporučeného množství pohybové aktivity u těchto studentů. Pro dosažení cíle byly formulovány dvě základní hypotézy, jež se však na základě získaných dat nepodařilo potvrdit. Analýza ukázala signifikantní vztah mezi nižším procentem tělesného tuku a vyšší intenzivní pohybovou aktivitou, a také mezi vyšším počtem hodin trávených sezením a vyšším procentem tělesného tuku. Závěry této práce poukazují na to, že obezita je spojena s intenzivní pohybovou aktivitou, zatímco nižší procento tuku je asociováno s vyšším množstvím pohybové aktivity a menším počtem hodin strávených sezením.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on obesity and mental health in secondary school children and their association with physical activity levels. The aim of the thesis was to determine the prevalence of obesity among high school students and to analyze the possible relationship between obesity and symptoms of depression. In addition, the thesis examined the assessment of adherence to the recommended amount of physical activity among these students. To achieve the aim, two basic hypotheses were formulated but could not be confirmed based on the data obtained. The analysis showed a significant relationship between a lower percentage of body fat and a higher intensity of physical activity, and between a higher number of hours spent sitting and a higher percentage of body fat. The findings of this work suggest that obesity is associated with vigorous physical activity, while lower body fat percentage is associated with higher amounts of physical activity and fewer hours spent sitting.
