Reliability of questionnaire survey data using different methods of data collection (mothers, runners, middle-aged HAIE)

Abstract:

Úvod: Spolehlivá data jsou klíčem k významnosti výsledků všech vědeckých studií. Jedním z faktorů, které mohou ovlivnit kvalitu dat, a tedy výsledků výzkumu, je výběr správné metody sběru informací od respondentů. Metodika: V rámci projektu HAIE byly vytvořeny tři kohorty - matky, běžci a středněvěcí. Pro každou kohortu byla použita jiná metoda sběru dat. Následně bylo vybráno 200 respondentů z každé kohorty a byly mezi nimi analyzovány rozdíly ve věku, vzdělání či ekonomické situaci pomocí Pearsonova ?? testu a Kruskal-Wallisova testu na hladině významnosti 5 %. Pro stanovení validity byl použit Spearmanův korelační koeficient a pro vyhodnocení reliability byl použit Cronbachův koeficient alfa. Statistické analýzy byly provedeny v programu STATA v.16 a grafické znázornění získaných výsledků bylo zpracováno v programu Microsoft Excel. Výsledky: Do souboru bylo vybráno celkem 600 respondentů. Matky byly ve věku od 21 do 51 let a největší skupina z nich dosáhla vysokoškolského vzdělání. Kohorta běžců zahrnovala 53,5 % mužů, naopak větší zastoupení žen (57,5 %) měla kohorta středněvěkých. Běžci a středněvěcí měli průměrný věk přibližně 50 let. Stejně jako matky, i běžci častěji dosahovali vysokoškolského vzdělání. Středněvěcí měli nejčastěji ukončenou střední školu s maturitou. Počet chybějících údajů se u jednotlivých kohort lišil, nejvyšší počet byl sledován u kohorty středněvěkých. Byla naměřena relativně vysoká validita použitého dotazníku a nejvyšší reliabilitou disponovaly odpovědi kohorty běžců. Reliabilita však byla u všech kohort střední. Závěr: Z výsledků je patrné, že nejlepší ze zkoumaných způsobů sběru dat je samostatné vyplnění dotazníku a následné dovolávání v případě většího množství chybějících údajů.

Abstract:

Introduction: Reliable data are the key to the significance of the results of all scientific studies. One of the factors that can influence the quality of data and therefore the results of research is the choice of the right method of collecting information from respondents. Metodology: For each cohort, a different data collection method was used. Subsequently, 200 respondents from each cohort were selected and differences in age, education, or economic situation between them were analysed using the Pearson ?? test and the Kruskal-Wallis test at the 5% significance level. Spearman's correlation coefficient was used to determine validity and Cronbach's alpha was used to assess reliability. Statistical analyses were performed in STATA v.16 and a graphical representation of the results was done in Microsoft Excel. Results: The mothers were between 21 and 51 years old and the largest group of them had achieved higher education. The cohort of runners included 53.5 % of males, while the cohort of middle-aged had a higher representation of women (57.5 %). The runners and middle-aged had a mean age of approximately 50 years. Like mothers, runners were more likely to have a university degree. Middle-aged respondents were most likely to have completed high school with a high school diploma. The number of missing data varied by cohort, with the highest number observed in the middle-aged cohort. The relative high validity of the questionnaire was measured, and the highest reliability was possessed by the responses of the runner cohort. However, reliability was moderate for all cohorts. Conclusion: The results show that the best of the data collection methods examined is self-completion of the questionnaire and subsequent recall in the case of multiple missing data.
