Fear as Health and Social Problem for the Elderly

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce představuje strach jako zdravotně-sociální problém u seniorů. Cílem této práce je zjistit s jakými zdravotně-sociálními formami strachu se senioři setkávají a jak ho prožívají. Práce je rozdělena na teoretickou a výzkumnou část. Teoretická část se zaměřuje na pojmy stáří, vymezení stáří, srovnání stáří historicky a dnes a gerontologii. Dále představuje seniora v rodině a ve společnosti, stárnutí ve městě a na venkově a s tím spojenou kvalitu života ve stáří. Na toto navazuje strach, který je rozdělen na strach, fobie, úzkost a úzkost v období stáří. Pokračuje historie strachu, jak strach vzniká, jak se projevuje, porozumění strachu a následná akceptace strachu. Na toto navazuje zdravotní a sociální vliv strachu. Další kapitolou je zdravotně-sociální problémy a strach, ve které jsou popsány sociální strachy a strach, který je spojen se zdravím. Výzkumná část této práce odpovídá na hlavní výzkumnou otázku. Hlavní výzkumná otázka se ptá, s jakými formami strachu se potýkají senioři z hlediska zdravotního a sociálního. Tato otázka je doplněna vedlejšími výzkumnými otázkami, jaké techniky využívají senioři k překonání strachu, jak se strach seniorů měnil v průběhu jejich života a jak senioři chápou a prožívají strach. Na tyto otázky je odpovězeno prostřednictvím kvalitativní výzkumné strategie, kdy data byla sbírána pomocí polostrukturovaných rozhovorů a analyzována otevřeným kódováním. Takto zpracovaná data byla interpretována tematickou analýzou a následně shrnuta, kdy výsledkem je odpověď na hlavní a vedlejší výzkumné otázky.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on fear as a health and social problem for the elderly. The aim of this work is to depict which health and social types of fear do elderly encounter and how do they experience it. This work is split into two parts first being theoretical and the second being research part. The theoretical part focuses on the concept of old age, definition of old age, comparison of the current and historical views of old age and gerontology. It follows by introducing the elderly in the family, society, and elderly in urban and rural areas with regards to the quality of life in old age. This chapter is followed by fear, which is split into fear, phobias, and anxiety in old age. Next is the history of fear, how does fear appear, how does fear display, the understanding of fear and acceptance of fear. Following is the health and social impact of fear. Next chapter is health and social problems and fear, which describes fear associated with health and social aspect. The research part of this work answers the main research question. Main research question asks about the types of fear elderly face in terms of health and social issues. Main research question is supported with sub-questions that try to answer what techniques elderly use to overcome fear, how did the fears of the elderly change over the course of their life and how do elderly understand and experience fear. These questions were answered through a qualitative research strategy. Collected data were the result of semi-structured interviews and later analyzed with open coding. The analyzed data were interpreted with thematic analysis and summarized. The result was the answer to the main research question and sub-questions.
