A taxonomic study on orthotrichaceous mosses (Bryophyta) in temperate areas of China

Abstract:

Široce pojatý rod Orthotrichum s. l. byl nedávno rozdělen do čtyř segregátů, zahrnující rody Leratia, Lewinskya, Nyholmiella, Orthotrichum s.str. a Pulvigera. Práce shrnuje výsledky výzkumu zaměřeného na studium epifytických mechů rodů Leratia, Lewinskya, Nyholmiella a Orthotrichum v Číně. V minulosti bylo hlášeno 37 taxonů ortotrichálních mechů z Číny (1 druh Leratia, 13 druhů Lewinskya, 1 druh Nyholmiella a 22 druhů Orthotrichum). Můj bryologický výzkum začal v roce 2015 a poskytl komplexní taxonomickou studii ortotrichálních mechů. Výzkum zahrnoval excerpci všech dostupných údajů z literatury, revizi sbírek v čínských (GZU, SHNU, SM, XJU, HSNU, IFP, PE, KUN, HB, IMU) a evropských herbářích (C, E, H, P, W, B), společně s terénním výzkumem, který proběhl ve dvanácti provincijích Číny. Tato studie přináší údaje o objevení deseti taxonů nových pro Čínu: Lewinskya affinis var. bohemica, L. graphiomitria, L. vladikavkana, Orthotrichum alpestre, O. moravicum, O. pamiricum, O. rogeri, O. scanicum, O. schimperi, O. urnigerum a 33 nových taxonů pro jednotlivé provincie. Nově připravený kontrolní seznam obsahuje 47 taxonů ortotrichálních mechů, jejichž výskyt je pro Čínu potvrzen. Výsledkem práce je také identifikační klíč pro rody Leratia, Lewinskya, Nyholmiella a Orthotrichum doplněný mapami o jejich rozšíření v Číně. Mezi velmi zajímavé výsledky lze uvést opakovaný nález druhu Lewinskya graphiomitria v Číně. Mech byl považován za novozélandský endemický druh. Nyní jeho distribuce představuje zajímavý příklad vzdálené mezikontinentální disjunkce mezi mechorosty. Práce se také částečně zabývá studiem distribučních vzorců epifytických ortotrichálních mechů. Ekologické modelování výklenků (ENM) je rozšířená metoda pro zjišťování výklenků druhů v environmentálním a geografickém prostoru, která umožňuje zvýraznit oblasti studovaných druhů s vyšší pravděpodobností výskytu na základě identifikace podobných podmínek prostředí, které jsou známy. Pro ENM byly vybrány čtyři druhy epifytických mechů. Výsledky mohou přispět k ochraně a lépe porozumět ekologickým požadavkům cílových druhů.

Abstract:

The historically broadly conceived genus Orthotrichum s. l. has recently been split into four segregates, including Leratia, Lewinskya, Nyholmiella, Orthotrichum s.str. and Pulvigera. The thesis summarizes the results of research focused on the study of epiphytic mosses of the genera Leratia, Lewinskya, Nyholmiella and Orthotrichum in China. Historically, there were reported 37 taxa of orthotrichaceous mosses from China (1 species of Leratia, 13 species of Lewinskya, 1 species Nyholmiella and 22 species of Orthotrichum). My bryological research began in 2015 and provided a comprehensive taxonomic study of orthotrichaceous mosses. The research included excerption of all available literature data, revision of chinese herbarium collections (GZU, SHNU, SM, XJU, HSNU, IFP, PE, KUN, HB, IMU) and european herbaria (C, E, H, P, W, B), together with field research of twelwe Provinces in China. This study brings data about ten taxa which are new for China: Lewinskya affinis var. bohemica, L. graphiomitria, L. vladikavkana, Orthotrichum alpestre, O. moravicum, O. pamiricum, O. rogeri, O. scanicum, O. schimperi, O. urnigerum and 33 taxa new for individual Provinces. Newly prepared checklist includes 47 taxa of the orthotrichaceous mosses which occurrence is confirmed for China. The results of the work is also identifying key for genera Leratia, Lewinskya, Nyholmiella and Orthotrichum supplemented by maps of their distribution in China. Among very interesting results could be mentioned the repeated finding of species Lewinskya graphiomitria in China. The moss had been considered as New Zealand endemic species. Now, its distribution represents an intriguing example of a remote intercontinental disjunction among the bryophytes. The work also deals in part on study distribution patterns of epiphytic orthotrichaceous mosses. Ecological niche modeling (ENM) is a widespread method to find out species niches in environmental and geographical space, which allows to highlight areas for the studied species that have a higher probability of occurrence, based on identifying similar environmental conditions those are known. It was chosen the four species of epiphytic mosses for ENM. The results can contribute to the conservation and get better understanding to ecological requirements of target species.
