Ups and Downs of CPC Members during the Cultural Revolution

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá politickými a životními vzestupy a pády vybraných čelních představitelů Komunistické strany Číny, konkrétně osobami Deng Xiaopinga a Lin Biaoa. Svým časovým rozsahem pokrývá období Velké proletářské kulturní revoluce, tj. dobu od roku 1966 až do smrti Mao Zedonga v roce 1976. Jejími cíli je zjistit, jaké politické změny přinesla Kulturní revoluce do životů těchto dvou vybraných představitelů. S tím souvisí i změny v jejich soukromých životech, neboť ve většině případů není možné zaměřit se pouze na politickou rovinu jejich života, která často korelovala s jejich osobním životem. Dále se zaměřuje na politické a osobní vazby na osobu předsedy Mao Zedonga a důsledky, které tyto vazby mohly přinést. Řešení výzkumných otázek bylo zpracované kompilační metodou zdrojů cizojazyčné sekundární literatury. Jedná se o výzkum věnující se tématu Kulturní revoluce z pohledu, který nejen v českém akademickém prostředí ještě nebyl tímto uceleným způsobem zpracován. Touto přímou metodou kvalitativního zkoumání textů sekundární literatury je tak čtenáři nastíněn bližší vývoj politických událostí Kulturní revoluce. Výsledkem výzkumu je popis zcela odlišných politických a životních cest dvou představitelů strany se zaměřením na jejich vztah s Mao Zedongem jakožto epicentrem moderní Číny. Vztahy, v nichž měl Mao v obou případech dominující postavení, měly rozhodující ráz, jenž zásadně ovlivnil Dengův a Linův život a politický osud.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the political and life ups and downs of selected leaders of the Communist Party of China, Deng Xiaoping and Lin Biao respectively. The research covers the period of the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution, more specifically the period from 1966 to the death of Mao Zedong in 1976. The purpose of this thesis was finding out what kinds of political changes the Cultural Revolution had brought into the lives of these two selected representatives. Changes that occurred in the personal lives of the two politicians have been discussed as well, as it is almost impossible to focus solely on the politician's professional lives. The thesis also focuses on Lin's and Deng's both political, and personal ties to Chairman Mao, as well as on the implications of these ties. Research questions were answered by means of the compilation method of foreign language secondary literature sources. This is a research devoted to the topic of the Cultural Revolution from a viewpoint that has not yet been elaborated in this unified manner in the Czech academic sphere. This direct method of qualitative examination of the texts of secondary literature is thus outlining a closer look into the development of political events that took place during the Cultural Revolution. The result of the research is a description of two completely different political and life paths of Deng and Lin, focusing on their relationship with Mao Zedong as epicenter of modern China. The relationships, in which Mao had a dominant position, had a decisive character, which had fundamentally influenced Deng's and Lin's lives, as well as their political fate.
