Body Language in the Framework of the Intercultural Communication (Czech-Russian)

Abstract:

Neverbální komunikace je nedělitelnou součástí života každého člověka. Podílí se na utváření prvního dojmu a provází celý proces komunikace. Zahrnuje mimiku, gestiku, haptiku, práci s časem, komunikaci předměty a celkovou image jedince. Řeč těla se ale v jednotlivých kulturách liší. Pro každou společnost jsou typické jiné vzorce chování a jiné kulturní standardy. Můžeme je vysvětlit na základě kulturních a historických souvislostí. V české kultuře se jedná především o nadvládu jiných zemí a později komunistický režim, v ruské se na standardech podílí silný vliv pravoslavné církve, geografické podmínky a opět komunistické epocha historického vývoje Ruska. Obecně můžeme konstatovat, že česká a ruská kultura jsou si, jakožto slovanské kultury, v mnohém podobné. Najdeme však i rozdíly plynoucí ze specifik daných kultur. V neverbální komunikaci se u Rusů projevují výraznější mimické projevy a také živější gestikulace, dále potřeba bližšího kontaktu mezi komunikujícími a velkou roli v rozhodování hrají sympatie. Pro ruskou společnost je důležitý sociální status, což Rusové dávají najevo drahým oblečením, nápadnými doplňky, typem auta atd. Všechny odlišnosti je potřeba si před jednáním s ruským partnerem uvědomit a zohlednit je. Pro úspěšnou interkulturní komunikaci je tedy nezbytná nejen výborná jazyková vybavenost, ale také pochopení a respektování odlišností dané kultury.

Abstract:

Nonverbal communication is part and parcel of every human life. Communication partakes in the creation of first impressions and accompanies all communication systems. Communication includes facial expressions, gesticulation, chronemics, communication with objects and the image of every person. But body language is different in each particular cultural system. Every society has some typical form of manners and different cultural standards. We can explain these features in cultural and historical terms. In Czech culture it is mainly a problem resulting from the foreign occupation of the Czech Republic, and the later communist regime; in Russia influences include the Easter Orthodox Church, geographic conditions and communism in history. Generally, we can state that Czech culture is similar to Russian culture in a lot of communication situations because of a common Slavic culture. Then again we can find some differences which are specific to these cultures. There is more expressive mimicry and more spirited gesticulation then the close contact necessary for communication and sympathy play big roles in making decisions. Social status is important for Russian society and they show it by designer clothes, striking fashion accessories or the brand of cars. It’s very important to know and respect all of differences before meeting with Russian partners. Excellent language ability and understanding and respecting differences are only the ways to successful intercultural communication.
