Learning Strategies: A Tool for Effective Vocabulary Learning of Adults on Their Pathway to Learner's Autonomy

Abstract:

This thesis deals with language learning strategies as an effective tool for vocabulary learning with adult students. In the theoretical part of the thesis the author analyses various findings from the fields of cognition, affect and metacognition, which are crucial for the English vocabulary teaching. The author then explores the issue of language learning strategies and different learner-training models. The research section of the thesis draws on these findings and describes the learner-training course, which the author designed and organised for her students. The aim of the thesis was to analyse the impact of the course on the number and quality of the language learning strategies the students use and on their language progress.

Abstract:

Tato práce pojednává o využití strategií učení jako efektivního prostředku pro učení slovní zásoby u dospělých studentů. V teoretické části autorka analyzuje teoretické poznatky z oblasti kognice, afektu a metakognice, které jsou klíčové pro výuku slovní zásoby anglického jazyka. Autorka se dále zabývá problematikou učebních strategií a jejich nácvikem u dospělých studentů. Výzkumná část pak na tyto postřehy navazuje a popisuje výcvikový kurz, který autorka práce navrhla a realizovala se svými studenty. Cílem práce bylo ověřit dopad takového kurzu na počet a kvalitu studenty využívaných učebních strategií a na jazykový rozvoj účastníků kurzu.
