Parallel between the selected novels by François Mauriac and Honoré de Balzac. Comparison of two archetypes.

Abstract:

In our bachelor’s thesis, we focus on the work of François Mauriac, a French novelist of the 20th century, and compare it with the work of Honoré de Balzac, a French novelist of the 19th century. In the first part, we present some common features of Mauriac’s books, including the historical context. In the second part, we are interested in the parallels between the specific signs of the Mauriac’s and Balzac’s novels. Alain Gajac from Mauriac’s novel Un adolescent d’autrefois and Eugène de Rastignac from Balzac’s novel Le Père Goriot serve as practical exemples.

Abstract:

V bakalářské práci se soustřeďujeme na dílo Françoise Mauriaca, francouzského romanopisce 20. století, a porovnáváme je s tvorbou Honorého de Balzaca, francouzského romanopisce 19. století. V první části představujeme některé společné rysy Mauriacových knih včetně historického kontextu. V druhé části se pak zajímáme o paralely mezi specifickými aspekty románů Mauriaca a Balzaca. Jako praktický příklad nám slouží Alain Gajac z Mauriacova románu Un adolescent d’autrefois a Eugène de Rastignac z Balzacova románu Le Père Goriot.
