A foreign language acquisition on the basis of the interests of the 3rd year students of a secondary school

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá tématem osvojování cizího jazyka. V teoretické části definuje a popisuje rozdíly mezi termíny osvojování a učení se cizímu jazyku. Popisuje faktory, které ovlivňují proces osvojování a zabývá se vývojovým obdobím žáků střední školy. Praktická část je složena z kvantitativního a kvalitativního výzkumu. V kvantitativním výzkumu se v dotazníkovém šetření sbírají data o zájmech žáků 3. ročníku středních škol, které se týkají osvojování anglického jazyka. Ze získaných dat se zkoumá vztah postoje k anglickému jazyku a výsledku vzdělávání. Také se porovnává délka času stráveného těmito aktivitami s jeho vlivem na výsledek vzdělávání. V neposlední řadě se také zkoumá vliv jednotlivých aktivit na výsledek vzdělávání. Kvalitativní výzkum se zabývá jednopřípadovou studií žáka, který díky svému zájmu dosáhnul velmi pokročilé úrovně anglického jazyka. Na základě zjištění z výzkumu jsou v závěru diplomové práce nabídnuty možnosti, kterými lze obohatit výuku.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with the topic of foreign language acquisition. The theoretical part defines and describes the differences between terms of learning and acquisition of a foreign language. It describes the factors that influence the process of acquisition and deals with the developmental period of secondary school students. The practical part consists of quantitative and qualitative research. In the quantitative research, the questionnaire survey collects data on the interests of students in the 3rd year of secondary schools which concern the acquisition of English. From the obtained data the relationship between the attitude to English language and the educational outcome is examined. It also compares the length of time spent on these activities with its impact on learning outcomes. Last but not least, the impact of individual activities on the outcome of education is also examined. Qualitative research deals with a single-case study of a student who, due to his interest, has reached a very advanced level of English. Based on the findings from the research, the possibilities of enriching teaching are offered at the end of the thesis.
