Abstract:

Diplomová práce ‘Growing up Bilingual (Case Study)’ je rozdělena do dvou částí - teoretické a praktické. Teoretická část práce popisuje řeč/jazyk jako výlučně lidskou vlastnost a nabízí několik vybraných definic pojmů ‘jazyk’ a ‘osvojování si jazyka’, okrajově se též zmiňuje o teoriích vzniku řeči. V této části práce jsou dále představeny teorie osvojování si jazyka, jež se vyvinuly během výzkumu v této oblasti. Je zde vysvětlen rozdíl mezi osvojováním si jazyka mateřského a jazyka dalšího a popsány fáze jazykového vývoje u dětí. Dále teoretická část práce presentuje vybrané definice pojmu ‘bilingvismus’ a různé typy bilingvismu. V poslední řadě se zabývá teoriemi a mýty, jež obklopují bilinvismus a bilingvní výchovu. Praktickou částí práce je případová studie (case study), jež dokumentuje první dva a půl roku života autorčina syna, který je vychováván bilingvně. Tato část práce dopodrobna popisuje konkrétní model bilingvní rodiny a obsahuje záznam jazykového vývoje bilingvního dítěte. Záměrem práce je přispět k výzkumu bilingvismu potvrzením, či vyvrácením vybraných teorií týkajících se bilingvní výchovy v raném dětství.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis ‘Growing up Bilingual (Case Study)’ is divided into two parts – theoretical and practical. The theoretical part discusses complex language as a uniquely human capacity and presents several chosen definitions of the terms ‘language’ and ‘language acquisition’; it also cites theories of language origin. It names various language acquisition theories that developed during the study of the topic. It explains the difference between the acquisition of the first and of the second language and presents stages of child language development. Further on, the theoretical part presents selected definitions of the term ‘bilingualism’ and names different types of bilingualism. Lastly, it considers theories, beliefs and myths which surround bilingualism and bilingual education. The practical part is a case study describing the first two and half years of a bilingual up-bringing of the author’s son. It describes in detail the particular family pattern and records bilingual language acquisition and the language development of the bilingual child. Its aim is to contribute to the research of bilingualism through confirming or rebutting selected theories concerning bilingual education in early childhood.
