Personality and social - environmental determinants of risk behavior in adolescence

Abstract:

Diplomová práce si klade za cíl zjistit, zda dosavadní poznatky o souvislostech rizikového chování, které jsou uvedeny v teoretické, přehledové části práce, odpovídají vztahům sledovaným v rámci longitudinálního výzkumu na české populaci. Práce tak má převážně heuristický charakter, je v ní využit kvantitativní přístup a metodologie kontrastních (extrémních) skupin. Výzkumný soubor tvoří patnáctiletí adolescenti, kteří referují o období převážně rané adolescence, které bylo zvoleno záměrně s ohledem na kulminující rizikovost rozvoje problémového chování. Veškerá data jsou získána z mezinárodního projektu ELSPAC (Evropská longitudinální studie těhotenství a dětství). Z výsledků vyplynula velmi zajímavá zjištění, která si zaslouží pozornost a zároveň mohou posloužit jako námět pro navazující, kritický výzkum. Práce potvrdila užitečnost uvažování o rizikovém chování v rámci syndromové teorie, ovšem stejně tak užitečné se jeví rozlišování určitých typů (jako např. v této práci – chování návykové, antisociální a sexuálně rizikové). Důležitou roli hraje také genderové hledisko.

Abstract:

The aim of the thesis is to explore if well-established facts on risk behavior in adolescence, which are referred to in the theoretical overview, are relevant to the interrelatioships examined within the framework of a longitudinal study on Czech adolescent population. Therefore, the thesis is mostly heuristic; the quantitative approach and contrasting-groups method are the core tools of methodology used here. The research sample sustaines of a cohort of fifteen-year-old adolescents who report on their early adolescent period. Early adolescence was chosen advisedly for the actual culmination of risk behavior. All data are obtained from the ELSPAC project (European Longitudinal Study of Pregnancy and Childhood). The results imply findings worth considering and suggest further critical review. The thesis confirmed the value lying in the concept of risk behavior as a syndrome and the concept related typology, for example addictive, antisocial or sexual risk behavior. In this respect, gender stereotypes were likewise acknowledged as a relevant variable.
