Slavery as a basic feature of Roman society, the statos of a slave during the time from the republic to the empire.

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce je obsáhnout aspekt otroctví, na kterém stála celá prosperita antického Říma. Vymezení právního postavení otroka, jeho ţivotních podmínek a v neposlední řadě porovnání postavení otroka mezi republikou a císařstvím, ale také nahlédnout a porovnat dějinný vývoj, jak si stáli otroci v Mezopotámii, dále pak bude srovnáno postavení otroka v antickém Řecku a Egyptě. To vše se zpětným ohlédnutím k antickému Římu, porovnání ţivotních podmínek, jaké měl otrok v Řecku vs. Římě, Mezopotámii vs. Římě, Egyptě vs. Římě. Pro tuto diplomovou práci je hlavní metoda deskriptivní, dále historická, jelikoţ vybrané téma je svou povahou historické. Toto téma diplomové magisterské práce se neobejde bez abstrakce a syntézy, a taktéţ bez občasné indukce. Pro pochopení zkoumaného problému v historické rovině je třeba uvést, ţe v závěru práce je provedena krátká komparace postavení otroků s jinými státy. V závěru je pak práce doplněna barevným mapovým obrazovým materiálem, a to z důvodu, aby bylo poukázáno, jak se Římská říše rozrůstala. Prudkost s jakou Řím vyrostl v pána Středomoří, otřásla celým známým světem. Růst Říma umoţnili právě otroci, kteří byli často jednou z mála hlavních výrobních sil v manufakturách, zemědělství, cestářství, dolech apod. Neznámý básník vystihl následující rozmach Říma takto: "Vítězný Řím div pod vlastní neklesl tíhou!"1 Hlavní část práce je soustředěna na otroctví v antickém Římě, a to v období mezi republikou a císařstvím, jelikoţ tam došlo ke změně právní ochrany otroka a jeho postavení se o něco málo zlepšilo. Autorka této práce se snaţí obsáhnout různorodý svět otroků v antickém Římě, a poukázat v diplomové práci na fakt, ţe římská prosperita stála na otrocké práci, tedy na vykořisťování jiných lidí, jiných národů, kteří byli nejčastěji válečnými zajatci. Pro tuto práci je alfou a omegou práce s primárními prameny a odbornou vědeckou literaturou. Rozsah diplomové práce nedovoluje postihnout vše, co kdy bylo zjištěno o otroctví a antickém světě. Primárně byla zařazena ta fakta, které autorka diplomové práce povaţuje za klíčové k uchopení daného problému.

Abstract:

The aim of the thesis is to cover the aspect of slavery, on which the entire prosperity of ancient Rome was based. The definition of the legal status of the slave, his living conditions and, last but not least, a comparison of the status of the slave between the republic and the empire, but also an insight into and comparison of the historical development of how slaves were in Mesopotamia, and then the status of the slave in ancient Greece and Egypt will be compared. All this with a flashback to ancient Rome, comparing the living conditions of a slave in Greece vs. Rome, Mesopotamia vs. Rome, Egypt vs. Rome. For this diploma thesis, the main method is descriptive, then historical, since the chosen topic is historical in nature. This topic of the diploma master's thesis cannot be done without abstraction and synthesis, and also without occasional induction. In order to understand the investigated problem on a historical level, it should be noted that at the end of the work, a short comparison of the status of slaves with other states is made. In the end, the work is supplemented with color map visual material, for the reason of showing how the Roman Empire grew. The pace with which Rome rose to master the Mediterranean shook the entire known world. An unknown poet described the following in this way: "It's a wonder that victorious Rome did not sink under its own weight!" The main part of the work is focused on slavery in ancient Rome, in the period between the Republic and the Empire. The author of this thesis tries to cover the diverse world of slaves in ancient Rome, and to point out in her diploma thesis the fact that Roman prosperity was based on slave labour, that is, on the exploitation of other people, other nations, who were most often prisoners of war. Working with primary sources and professional scientific literature is the alpha and omega of this work. The scope of the thesis does not allow covering everything that has ever been discovered about slavery and the ancient world. Those facts were included primarily which the author of the diploma thesis considers to be key to grasping the given problem.
