Psychological resilience and subjective health by high school youth

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá tématem psychické odolnosti a subjektivního zdraví u středoškolské mládeže se zaměřením na psychologický konstrukt 'sense of coherence' (SOC, nebo-li smysl pro soudržnost) Aarona Antonovského. Práce je rozdělena na část teoretickou a experimentální. První část je věnována teoretické a pojmové analýze fenoménů psychické odolnosti a subjektivního zdraví a témat s nimi souvisejících. Autorka nejprve diskutuje pojem 'resilience' a jeho vývoj a zaměřuje se na vybrané koncepce odolnosti související se zdravím, zejména na 'hardiness' a salutogenetické pojetí psychické odolnosti včetně jeho tří faktorů - srozumitelnosti, zvládnutelnosti a smysluplnosti. Dále předkládá přehled zdrojů odolnosti, věnuje se vztahu zdraví a subjektivního zdraví, kvalitě života a 'well-beingu'. Na závěr se soustředí na zdraví u adolescentů, která je cílovou skupinou její práce. Cílem experimentální části bylo zjistit vztah mezi smyslem pro soudržnost a subjektivním zdravím na vzorku středoškolské mládeže ve věkovém rozmezí 16 - 18 let (N =120). Byl použit dotazník SOC-29 a dva inventáře pro měření subjektivního zdraví s 5 a 7 škálami. Výsledky ukázaly silnou korelaci statisticky významnou korelaci mezi subjektivním zdravím a odolností ve smyslu SOC.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with mental resistance and subjective health at the secondary school adolescents and focuses on the Aarona Antonovsky´s psychological construct of the sense of coherence (SOC). The thesis is divided into two parts: the theoretical and experimental one. The first part is devoted to the theoretical and conceptual analysis of the phenomena of the psychological resilience and subjective health as well as topics related to them. The author first discusses the notion of resilience and its development and focuses on selected conceptions of resilience related to health, especially on hardiness and salutogenetic concept of the psychological resilience including its three factors: Comprehensibility, Manageability and Meaningfuness. Also the author presents an overview of the sources of resilience, discusses the relationship between health and subjective health, quality of life and well-being.The end of this part focuses on health of the adolescents who are the target group of the thesis. The target of the experimental part is to find out the relation bethween tghe sense of coherence and subjective health at the sample of secondary school adolescents between 16 and 18 years of age (N =120). The SOC-29 inventory was used and two one-item single measure 5-point and 7-point scales for measuring the subjective health. The results have shown strong statistically significant correlation between subjective health and psychological resilience within the sense of coherence concept.
