Abstract:

Tato dizertační práce studuje roli, kterou hrají atmosférické aerosoly při distribuci, transportu, degradaci a vymývání semivolatilních látek přítomných v atmosféře. V první části se zaměřuje na variabilitu vlastností aerosolů v závislosti na jejich zdroji: na koncentraci částic, jejich velikost, materiálové složení, obsah organického uhlíku nebo aktivní povrch. Návazně se zabývá polyaromatickými uhlovodíky jako typickými zástupci organických látek, které se v atmosféře rozdělují mezi částice a plynnou fázi, a demonstruje, že se tyto látky nacházejí vázané převážně na nejjemnější prachovou frakci. Ve druhé části se práce snaží postihnout sezónní proměnlivost atmosférických aerosolů a s tím související rozdílné chování sledovaných organických látek závislé na odběrové lokalitě a čase. Spektrum sledovaných polutantů se rozšiřuje o polychlorované dibenzo-p-dioxiny a dibenzofurany, polychlorované bifenyly, bromované zpomalovače hoření a pesticidy. V závěrečné části jsou získaná data využita k demonstraci toho, jak zásadní je znalost o interakci organických látek s aerosoly pro zpřesnění analýzy environmentálních a zdravotních rizik a vývoj prediktivních modelů.

Abstract:

This dissertation thesis studies the role of atmospheric aerosols in the processes of distribution, transport, degradation, and scavenging of semivolatile organic chemicals present in the atmosphere. The first part of the thesis is focused on variability of the aerosols' properties related to their sources: particle concentration, size, and material composition, organic carbon content or active surface. Polyaromatic hydrocarbons representing a group of chemicals partitioning in the atmosphere between the particles and gas phase were addressed in the next step demonstrating that such compounds are mostly associated with the finest fraction of the particles. In the second part of the thesis, the seasonal variability of the atmospheric aerosols dependent on sampling location and season is assessed together with related variability in behaviour of selected organic compounds. A range of analyzed chemicals includes dibenzo-p-dioxins a dibenzofurans, polychlorinated biphenyls, brominated flame retardants a pesticides. In the final part of the thesis, new data are used to demonstrate how crucial detailed knowledge of interactions between the organic compounds in the atmosphere and the atmospheric aerosols is for refining an assessment of environmental and human health risks and development of predictive models.
