"The censorship by correspondence" 1939: the so-called censor's letters from the PD CM adressed to the editors-in-chief of daily press in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia

Abstract:

Teoretická bakalářská práce se zabývá korespondenční cenzurou v prvních šesti měsících Protektorátu Čechy a Morava. Představuje tak zvané cenzurní přípisy, tedy dopisy s instrukcemi pro šéfredaktory českých tištěných deníků, které byly posílány z Tiskového odboru Předsednictva ministerské rady. Na základě studia archivních pramenů a literatury popisuje funkci, formu a obsah těchto cenzurních pokynů. Cílem práce je pomocí metod historického výzkumu interpretovat, jakým způsobem měl být prostřednictvím přípisů upravován mediální obraz reality v protektorátu. Práce by měla rozšířit současný stav poznání na poli protektorátní cenzury. Zkoumané cenzurní přípisy jsou přílohou bakalářské práce.

Abstract:

This theoretical bachelor thesis is focused on censorship by correspondence in the first six months of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. It introduces the so-called censor‘s letters, that implies the letters with instructions for editors-in-chief of Czech daily press, which were sent from the Press Department of the Council of Ministers. It describes the function, form and content of this censor’s directions on the basis of studying archival sources and literature. The aim of this thesis is to interpret by using the methods of historical research how the letters try to adjust the medial image of reality in the protectorate. The study should broaden the current state of knowledge in the field of protectorate censorship. Examined letters are included in the supplement of this bachelor thesis.
