Awareness of pregnant women about current possibilities of screening and diagnosis of Down syndrome

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce pojednává o současných možnostech screeningu a diagnostiky Downova syndromu. Práce je rozdělena na část teoretickou a průzkumnou. V teoretické části je popsán Downův syndrom, jeho nejčastější klinické projevy a příčiny vzniku, dále jsou zde rozebrány jednotlivé metody screeningu a diagnostiky Downova syndromu a v neposlední řadě práce popisuje reakci rodičů na sdělení diagnózy. Hlavním cílem práce bylo zjistit informovanost těhotných žen o současných možnostech screeningu a diagnostiky Downova syndromu v rámci průzkumného šetření prováděného v gynekologických ambulancích pomocí nestandardizovaného dotazníku. Výsledky průzkumného šetření jsou uvedeny v samostatné kapitole.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis is about current possibilities of screening and diagnosis of Down syndrome. It consists of both a theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part describes Down syndrome, its most common clinical manifestations and causes of origin, also individual methods of screening and diagnosis for Down syndrome are analyzed and finally the thesis describes parents´ response to the diagnosis. The main aim of the thesis was to find out about the awareness of pregnant women regarding current possibilities of screening and diagnosis for Down syndrome. This was done by a survey carried out in gynecological outpatient clinics using a non-standardized questionnaire. The results of the research findings are presented in this work.
