Punishment of house arrest and its impact on reduction of crime

Abstract:

Má diplomová práce se věnuje trestu domácího vězení a jeho vlivu na upuštění od trestné činnosti, přičemž tento alternativní trest je relativně nový. Cílem práce je zjistit, zda je trest domácího vězení dostatečný tak, aby pachatelé upustili od páchání další trestné činnosti, a zjistit, jak pracuje probační úředník s pachatelem, který byl odsouzen k výkonu trestu domácího vězení. Diplomová práce je rozdělena do několika kapitol, kdy první kapitoly se věnují alternativním trestům obecně a pak je specifikován a podrobně probrán trest domácího vězení. V druhé polovině teoretické části se věnuji Probační a mediační službě, která je s tímto trestem úzce spjata. Jako praktickou část práce jsem zvolila analýzu statistik týkající se domácího vězení, elektronického monitoringu a efektivity probace. Z výzkumu je patrné, že probace je efektivní, ale existují určité věci, které by bylo možné zlepšit.

Abstract:

My thesis deals with the sentence of house arrest and its influence on the abandonment of crime, while this alternative punishment is relatively new. The aim of the thesis. is to find out whether the sentence of house arrest is sufficient so that the perpetrators refrain from committing another criminal activity and to find out how the probation officer works with the perpetrator who was sentenced to serve the sentence of house arrest. The thesis is divided into several chapters, where the first ones deal with alternative punishments in general and then the sentence of house arrest is specified and discussed in detail. In the second half of the theoretical part, I deal with the Probation and Mediation Service, which is closely related to this work. As a practical part of the thesis, I chose the analysis of statistics related to house arrest, electronic monitoring and probation efficiency. Research shows that probation is effective, but there are some things that could be improved.
