Supporting neurodivergent students in the study of the French language

Abstract:

This Master thesis deals with the question of specific learning and behavioural disorders and their manifestations in the teaching of French as a foreign language. In the theoretical part, we briefly describe various diagnoses with their characteristic manifestations and the different remedy options in the teaching of French as a foreign language. The research part is aimed at verifying the application and effectiveness of the interventions provided by pedagogical-psychological counselling centres. The questionnaire survey was carried out on a qualitative sample of teachers of French and students presenting specific learning disabilities. The sample consisted of 14 teachers and 16 students from five different regions of the Czech Republic and Prague (regions Pilsen, Central Bohemia, Zlín, South Moravia and Moravia-Silesia). Both surveyed groups spanned multiple levels of education, ranging from the second level of primary school to higher education, to capture real needs of teachers and students in the teaching and studying of French. The results show that the teaching of French is in line with current recommendations, but subject to their relevance. It has also been shown that students are aware of their difficulties in learning French and are able to communicate their needs arising from the diagnosis.

Abstract:

Tato magisterská diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou projevů specifických poruch učení a chování ve výuce francouzského jazyka. V teoretické části stručně popisujeme jednotlivé diagnózy s jejich charakteristickými projevy a různými možnostmi reedukace ve výuce francouzštiny jako cizího jazyka. Výzkumná část je zaměřena na ověření míry aplikovatelnosti a účinnosti doporučení poskytovaných pedagogicko-psychologickými poradnami. Výzkum byl prováděn pomocí dotazníkového šetření dvou kvalitativních vzorků, a to vyučujících francouzštiny a studentů se specifickými potřebami učení. Dotazovaný vzorek tvořilo 14 vyučujících a 16 studentů z Prahy a pěti různých krajů ČR (kraj Plzeňský, Středočeský, Zlínský, Jihomoravský a Moravskoslezský). Obě dotazované skupiny zahrnovaly více stupňů vzdělávání, a to od druhého stupně základních škol až po školy vysoké, s cílem zachytit reálné potřeby vyučujících i studentů ve výuce a studiu francouzského jazyka. Výsledky šetření prokázaly, že výuka probíhá v souladu s platnými doporučeními, avšak s výhradou k jejich relevanci. Rovněž se prokázalo, že si jsou studenti vědomi svých obtíží při studiu francouzštiny a své potřeby pramenící z diagnózy umějí komunikovat.
