Stability of Ways of Coping with Stress Situations: Time Course and Development

Abstract:

Intenzivní dlouhodobá studie typu n=1, jejímž výzkumným objektem byla sama autorka, se zabývá zvládáním zátěžových situací s ohledem na jejich komplexní, procesuální a fázický charakter. Pomocí kombinace kvalitativních a kvantitativních postupů zkoumá charakteristiky zátěžových situací (valence situace, situační kontext, zdroje zátěže), charakteristiky zvládání (kategorie zvládacích postupů, fáze zvládání zátěžové situace, efektivita zvládání) a vzájemné vztahy těchto proměnných. Popsány byly postupy zaměřené na zvládání aktuální zátěžové situace i postupy, které tento rámec překračují a vztahují se ke zvládání situací, jež mohou potenciálně nastat v budoucnosti. Analyzovány byly fáze zvládacího procesu včetně těch, v nichž není vyvíjena zvládací aktivita. Nalezeny byly vztahy jak mezi užitím některých zvládacích postupů a valencí situace, tak i mezi valencí situace, počtem zdrojů zátěže, počtem fází zvládání situace a efektivitou zvládání. Z provedené analýzy vyplynula i souvislost problematiky zvládání s problematikami well-beingu a učení.

Abstract:

The intensive longitudinal study of type n=1 (the research object has been the researcher herself) is focused on coping with stress situations, especially considering its complex, processional and phasic character. Using both qualitative and quantitative procedures, the author explores the main characteristics of the stressing situations (stress intensity , context, sources of the stress), the main characteristics of coping (cathegories of coping procedures, stages of coping with stressing situations and effectiveness of the coping) and mutual relations of these variables. The study describes procedures of coping with current stressing situation, but also procedures going beyond this framework, coping with possible situations in future. It also analyses the phasis of coping procedures including those where the coping activity is missing. The study discovers not only relations between the use of specific coping procedures and stress intensity, but also the relations between stress intensity, the number of sources of the stress, the number of coping phasis and the efectiveness of the coping. The accomplished analysis finds also a notable connection between the issue of coping and issues of well-being and learning.
