Comparison of Reliability and Predictive Characteristics of Foreign Language Learning Strategy Inventories

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá otázkou, jak nejlépe zjišťovat strategie učení se cizímu jazyku. V teoretické části jsou vymezeny strategie učení, je představena jedna z nejpoužívanějších klasifikací strategií, dále jsou popsány metody zjišťování strategií učení se cizímu jazyku a tři konkrétní inventáře, jejichž edukometrické vlastnosti jsou srovnávány v praktické části diplomové práce. Praktická část se snaží konkrétně nalézt odpověď na otázku, který z použitých inventářů vykazuje nejlepší predikční vlastnosti vůči výsledkům vzdělávání. Zjišťována a porovnávána je reliabilita inventářů. Sledovány jsou rozdíly v reliabilitě ve vazbě na pořadí vyplnění inventáře a pohlaví respondenta. Dále byl zjišťován vztah deklarovaného používání strategií a dalších proměnných, jako je pohlaví, délka učení se cizímu jazyku a motivace pro učení se cizímu jazyku. Uvedené metodologické šetření bylo realizováno na studentech třetích ročníků gymnázií.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with question how can we determine foreign language learning strategies in the best way. In the theorical part, there is defined learning strategies, is presented one of the most used classification of strategies, description of methods using for finding foreign language learning strategies, and some information about three concrete inventoriers whose educometric qualities are compared in practical part of this thesis. Practical part tries to concretely find out answer a question, which of used inventories demonstrate in the best way predict qualities towards education results. There is determinated and compared reliability of inventories. There is focus on differences in reliability in relation to order completion of invetories and respondent gender. There is also determinated and announced relation between using strategies and other variabilities, as gender, duration of learning foreign language and motivation to learn foreign language. These methodological survey was realized by students at third degree at grammar school.
