Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce je analýza zahraniční politiky britské Labouristické strany během její historie s důrazem na období během referenda o setrvání v Evropském hospodářském společenství v roce 1975 a referenda o vystoupení z Evropské unie v 2016. Nejdůležitějším zkoumaným aspektem zahraniční politiky je vztah mezi labouristy a Spojenými státy americkými, a naopak k tomu kontrastní vztah k evropské integraci.Hlavní výzkumnou otázkou je: Jakým způsobem a v jakém ideovém, vnitropolitickém a zahraničněpolitickém kontextu se měnily postoje Labouristické strany vůči Evropské unii a Spojeným státům americkým?Práce využívá historickou metodu při zkoumání postojů během historie strany, převážně po Druhé světové válce a poté komparativní metodu, kdy porovnává tyto postoje během dvou stanovených období: referendu o setrvání v Evropském hospodářském společenství v roce 1975 referendu o vystoupení z Evropské unie v roce 2016.Práce je rozdělena do tří hlavních kapitol. V první kapitole seznámí s tradicemi britské zahraniční politiky a jejich významem pro 20. století. Další kapitola se věnuje Labouristické straně a popisuje její vývoj a proměny od druhé světové války až po současnost. Třetí kapitola se zaměří na období během vyjednávání referenda o setrvání v EHS v roce 1975 a na období referenda o vystoupení z EU v roce 2016 a porovná proměnu postojů k EHS/EU a USA. Na těchto případech se bude práce snažit zodpovědět na stanovenou výzkumnou otázku.

Abstract:

The objective of this thesis is the analysis of the foreign policy of the UK Labour Party during its history, with an emphasis on the 1975 referendum to remain in the European Economic Community and the 2016 referendum to withdraw from the European Union. The most important aspect of foreign policy for this thesis is the relationship between the Labour Party and the United States of America and its contrasting relationship to the European integration.The primary research question is: How did the Labour Party's attitudes towards the European Union and the United States of America throughout it’s history change and what were the ideological, internal and foreign policy contexts of these changes?The thesis uses the analytic method to interpret the Labour foreign policy throughout its history, primarily after World War II and then the comparative method, when it aims to put the two above stated periods in contrast to each other: the EEC referendum of 1975 and the EU referendum of 2016.The thesis is divided into three main chapters. The first one introduces the traditions of the British foreign policy and points out their importance for the 20th century. Second chapter deals with the formation of the Labour Party and its development since the Second World War until today. Third chapter compares the relationships towards the EEC/EC and the USA during the 1975 referendum to remain in the EEC and the 2016 referendum to leave the EU. On these cases, the thesis aims to answer the research question set forth above.
