Alternative theories of the firm

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá problematikou alternativních teorií firmy a jejich vztahem k neoklasické teorii firmy. V prvních dvou kapitolách jsou popsány příčiny vzniku samotné firmy a neoklasické teorie, následně příčiny vzniku alternativních teorií firmy a dále je prezentováno několik vybraných modelů manažerských a behavioristických teorií firmy. V návaznosti na alternativní teorie firmy se práce dále zabývá otázkou společenské odpovědnosti firem a jejím vztahem vůči teoriím firmy. Cílem této práce je tedy rozbor a porovnání jednotlivých teorií firmy, následně analýza společenské odpovědnosti firem, kdy práce hodnotí její přínosy pro firmu a v závěru zařazuje společensky odpovědné aktivity do kontextu teorií firmy. V závěru tato práce dochází k tomu, že společenská odpovědnost firem sice nevykazuje potřebné znaky, aby byla kvalifikována jako samostatná alternativní teorie firmy, ale přesto je patrný její jednoznačný přínos, protože pomáhá pochopit, jak současné firmy stanovují své cíle a následně jak skrze jejich naplňování dosahují cíleného úspěchu.

Abstract:

This papers deals with the topic of alternative theories of the firm and their relation to the neoclassical theory of the firm. The first two chapters describe causes of creation of the firm itself and neoclassical theory, consequently causes of rise of alternative theories of the firm and in the end there is a decription of selected managerial and behavioral models of the firm. Following the alternative theories of the firm, the thesis also deals with the topic of corporate social responsibility and its relation to the theories of the firm. The aim of this thesis is to analyze and compare the individual theories of the firm and then to analyze corporate social responsibility, where the work evaluates its benefits for the firm and, in the end, places socially responsible activities into the context of theories of the firm. In conlusion, corporate social responsibility does not show the necessary features to be classified as a new alternative theory of the firm, yet there is significant contribution, because it helps to understand how contemporary firms set their goals and how they, through their fulfillment, achieve desired success.
