Ancient DNA analysis from historical hair

Anotácia:

Bakalářská práce se věnuje vlasům, jakožto alternativnímu zdroji starobylé DNA. Obsahuje informace o stavbě lidského vlasu a zabývá se problematikou studia historických vlasů. Dále práce pojednává o samotné analýze genetické informace z vlasu, jejích možnostech a omezeních daných množstvím a typem DNA, kterou lze z vlasu získat. Rozsáhlá část práce se věnuje metodice extrakce DNA z vlasů s uvedením konkrétních příkladů, kdy byla aDNA z vlasů studována. V závěru práce je uvedeno, proč je důležité analýze aDNA ze starobylých vlasů věnovat pozornost.

Abstract:

In this thesis I investigate hair as an alternative source of ancient DNA. Included in the paper is information about the structure of human hair and about data which could be obtained while studying historical hair. The thesis further analyzes genetic information from hair, limitations and possibilities given by the type and amount of DNA that can be extracted from hair. A large part of the thesis is devoted to the methodology of extracting DNA from hair, including specific examples of known studies of ancient DNA from hair. In conclusion the thesis states why it is important to pay attention to ancient human hair analysis.
