The Knowledge Economy in European Union

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce pojednává o formování, vývoji, struktuře a klíčových prvcích znalostní ekonomiky. První a druhá kapitola jsou věnovány přechodu od industriální k postindustriální společnosti a změnám, které nastaly ve struktuře ekonomiky v období od průmyslové revoluce až do současnosti. Stěžejní částí práce je třetí kapitola, která je věnována znalostní ekonomice v Evropské unii a srovnání s jejími konkurenty. Podkapitola Lisabonská strategie a sdělení Evropa 2020 prezentuje dva zásadní dokumenty EU, definující cíle pro dosažení konkurenceschopné ekonomiky. V kapitole dále zmiňuji vnitřní a vnější výzvy, kterým EU čelí a k jejichž řešení by měla přispět ekonomika založená na znalostech, výzkumu a vývoji, inovacích a vzdělání. Závěrečná, čtvrtá kapitola hodnotí úroveň znalostní ekonomiky v České republice z pohledu institucí Centra pro evropské reformy a Ministerstva průmyslu a obchodu. Toto hodnocení je doplněno analýzou struktury zahraničního obchodu, zejména pak vývozu.

Abstract:

This dissertation thesis is about formation, development and structure and key elements OF the knowledge economy. The first and the second chapter is dedicated to the transition from industrial to postindustrial society and its relation to the changes of the structure of economy since the industrial revolution until today. Pivotal part of this thesis is the third chapter which is devoted to the knowledge economy within the European Union and the comparison to its competitors. The subhead Lisbon Strategy and Europe 2020 presents two fundamental documents of EU, defining steps of achieving economy that is able to withstand tough competition. In this chapter, I mention internal and external challenges which are EU faced with and to which an economy based on knowledge, R&D, innovation and education should contribute to in order to be solved. In the final chapter we can find evaluation of the level of knowledge economy in the Czech Republic from the perspective of institutions such as Center for European Reforms and Ministry of Industry and Trade. This evaluation is completed by an analysis of the structure of foreign trade, especially on export.
