Divided by Net: Autoetnography of Amateur Voleyball in Pardubice

Abstract:

Tato vizuálně-antropologická autoetnografie se zabývá vnitřním světem a sociálními interakcemi v rámci amatérského volejbalového týmu. Autor používá kombinaci etnografického výzkumu a interpretace formou vizuálních médií k prozkoumání a zobrazení každodenního života hráčů, jejich motivací, emocí a vztahů na hřišti i mimo něj. V rámci autoetnografického přístupu autor využívá svých vlastních zkušeností a členství v amatérském volejbalovém týmu, jako základ pro reflexi a analýzu. Cílem této výzkumné studie je nejen popsat a analyzovat konkrétní aspekty amatérského volejbalu, ale také porozumět symbolickému významu a současné situaci tohoto sportu z perspektivy antropologie sportu. V práci jsou využity primárně kvalitativní metody, jako je zúčastněné pozorování, rozhovory a etnografické filmování.

Abstract:

This visually anthropological autoethnography examines the inner world and social interactions within an amateur volleyball team. The author utilizes a combination of ethnographic research and visual media interpretation to explore and portray the players' everyday lives, motivations, emotions, and relationships both on and off the court. Within the autoethnographic approach, the author draws upon their own experiences and membership in the amateur volleyball team as a basis for reflection and analysis. The goal of this research study is not only to describe and analyze specific aspects of amateur volleyball but also to understand the symbolic meaning and current state of this sport from the perspective of sports anthropology. The work primarily employs qualitative methods such as participant observation, interviews, and ethnographic filmmaking.
