An annotated translation of a previously untranslated economic text

Abstract:

The objective of this bachelor thesis is to execute an analysis of a professionally oriented English text in the field of economics, provide a Czech translation, and make remarks on translation methods and strategies used during the process. The first section deals with the social-semiotic approach by Halliday & Hasan. In the second section, the complex translation-oriented model by Nord is applied. The third section compares the two models. The next section consists of the Czech translation of a research article titled "The impact of the economic recession on well-being and quality of life of older people" from the academic journal Health and Social Care in the Community (2012). The next section defines the skopos and determines the communicative purpose. In the last section, translation strategies introduced by Knittlová and Baker are incorporated and commented on, while examples from the translated text are provided. The thesis also focuses on the comparison of theoretical concepts, which contributes to a better understanding of the translation flow process and demonstrates homogeneity among the theoretical aspects.

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce je provést textovou analýzu a poskytnout komentář k překladatelským postupům, které byly během překladu v jazykové kombinaci angličtina a čeština aplikovány na vybraném textu z oblasti ekonomie. První část se zabývá analýzou textu na základě socio sémiotické metody podle Hallidaye & Hasanové. Druhá část aplikuje textovou analýzu se zaměřením na překlad podle Nordové. Ve třetí části jsou oba modely porovnány. Další část zahrnuje překlad odborného článku "The impact of the economic recession on well-being and quality of life of older people", který byl publikován v odborném časopise Health and Social Care in the Community (2012). Pátá část představuje skopos jako koncept určující účel překladu. V poslední části jsou popsány překladatelské metody a strategie podle Knittlové a Bakerové, které byly implementovány během překladu. Kapitolu doplňují názorné ukázky z přeloženého textu. Práce také porovnává dílčí teoretické přístupy, čímž poukazuje na jejich společné rysy, a ve výsledku je celý překladatelský proces zřetelně znázorněn.
