Communication ability of multilingual preschool children in Ireland

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá komunikační schopností multilingvních dětí předškolního věku žijících v Irsku. Obsahuje tři kapitoly, z nichž dvě jsou teoretické a jedna je empirická. Teoretická část vymezuje základní pojmy z oblasti komunikace, popisuje vývoj řeči, jazykové roviny, narušenou komunikační schopnost, definuje pojem multilingvismus a dále popisuje jeho druhy a specifika komunikace dětí vyrůstajících ve vícejazyčném prostředí. Empirická část zahrnuje výzkumné šetření, jehož cílem byla analýza řeči dětí, které byly předmětem výzkumu. Výzkumnými technikami strukturovaného dotazování a polostrukturovaného rozhovoru, analýzou výsledků činnosti a participačního pozorování byly získány informace k vypracování tří případových studií dětí vyrůstajících ve vícejazyčném prostředí, kde rodným jazykem jednoho z rodičů je čeština.

Abstract:

This bachelor’s thesis deals with communication ability of multilingual preschool children in Ireland. The thesis consists of three chapters. Two chapters are theoretical and one chapter is empirical. The theoretical part of the thesis determines the term of communication as well as other basic terms related to the topic, speech ontogeny, specific language levels, speech disorders, clarifies the issues of multilingualism, its types, and presents specifics that may occur in language development of children growing up in multilingual environment. The empirical part of the thesis deals with the analysis of the communication ability of multilingual preschool children in Ireland. Essential information gained through a research technique of structured and semi-structured interviews, analysis of practical results and participant observation were required for complementation of three case studies of children living in international families, where one of the parents’ native language was Czech.
