Optimism and hope in a relationship with health related behaviour

Abstract:

Tato magisterská diplomová práce je parciální součástí výzkumu aktuálně probíhajícího výzkumu na Masarykově univerzitě „Chování zdraví podporující a zdraví ohrožující: determinanty, modely, konsekvence. Práce pojednává o vybraných konstruktech optimismu – dispoziční optimismus a optimismus jako explanační styl, naději a chování související se zdravím u zkoumaných věkových kohort adolescentů a osob středně dospělých. V teoretické části jsme představili jednotlivé konstrukty optimismu, naději, zdraví a chování související se zdravím, stejně jako determinanty zdraví ovlivňující. Rovněž jsme stručně popsali charakteristické vývojové zákonitosti vybraných věkových kohort a jejich chování vzhledem ke zdraví. Empirická část je věnována realizovanému kvantitativnímu výzkumu, ve kterém se výzkumný soubor sestával celkově ze 435 jedinců. Respondentů adolescentů ve věku (17 – 19 let) bylo celkově 100 a respondentů souboru střední dospělosti ve věku (30 – 45 let) bylo 335. Pro sběr dat byly použity vybrané metody z celistvé testové baterie výzkumu. Konkrétně byly použity následující metody: Škála chování související se zdravím, Revidovaný test životní orientace (LOT-R), Dotazník atribučního stylu (ASQ) a Škála naděje pro dospělé (AHS). Cílem této práce bylo zjistit vztahy mezi konstrukty optimismu vzhledem k chování souvisejícímu se zdravím u adolescentů a souboru osob střední dospělosti, neboť výsledky podobných studií realizovaných v zahraničí poukazují na statisticky významné vztahy mezi těmito konstrukty. Výsledky našeho výzkumu jsou následující: I v tuzemských podmínkách existuje signifikantně významný vztah mezi dispozičním optimismem a zdraví podporujícím chováním, přičemž faktor - Duševní hygiena se prokázala jako statisticky nejvýznamnější (r = 0,644), v dalších faktorech se sice rovněž prokázaly signifikantní vztahy, nicméně slabšího charakteru.

Abstract:

This Master Diploma Thesis is a partial analysis of data from the research: Health –Enhancing and Health – Threating Behaviour: Determinants, Models and Implications“ which is actually ongoing at Masaryk´s University in Brno. This Master Thesis deals with the chosen constructs of the optimism – the dispositional optimism and the optimistic explanatory style, the hope and also with the health related behaviour in chosen aged cohort of teenagers and middle-aged adults. In the theoretical part of the thesis we briefly described each important constructs of the thesis – the optimism, the hope, the health and health related behaviour, evolutional relations of chosen aged cohort – teenagers and middle-aged adults and their specific health related bahaviour are also presented there. The empirical part is based on the quantitative research. The research sample consists of 435 repondents in total. The research sample of teenagers consists of 100 people (aged 17 – 19) and the sample of middle-aged adults is made up of 335 people (aged 30 to 45). For the purpose of data collection selected methods from a complex research test battery were used: The Health Related Behaviour Scale, The Life Orientation Test – Revised (LOT-R), The Atrributional Style Questionnaire (ASQ) and The Adult Hope Scale (AHS). The main aim of this thesis was to found out the relationships between the constructs of optimism and health related behaviour, because the significant relationship between these constructs exist abroad. The results of our research are following. The significant relationship exists even in our conditions, mainly in Mental hygiene factor.
