Methods and possibilities of teaching pronunciation in the FLE class in Czech environment: Teachers' point of view

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on teaching French pronunciation from the point of view of Czech second grade and secondary school teachers. The thesis is traditionally divided into two parts – a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part deals with the characteristics of pronunciation and its importance in the process of learning a foreign language. It describes the factors influencing this teaching, and last but not least, it offers a range of different methods, exercises and activities usable in teaching pronunciation. The empirical part evaluates the results of research investigation, realized by semi-structured interviews with 2nd grade and secondary school teachers. The aim was to find out how the respondents teach French pronunciation and to compare their experiences with the recommended practices in theory. The added value of this work is to encourage and inspire French language teachers to teach pronunciation.

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se věnuje problematice výuky francouzské výslovnosti z pohledu českých učitelů 2. stupně a středních škol. Práce je tradičně rozdělena na dvě části – teoretickou a praktickou. Teoretická část se zabývá charakteristikou výslovnosti a její důležitosti v procesu učení se cizího jazyka, popisuje činitele, kteří tento proces ovlivňují a v neposlední řadě nabízí škálu různých metod, cvičení a aktivit využitelných ve výuce výslovnosti. Empirická část vyhodnocuje výsledky z výzkumného šetření realizovaného pomocí polostrukturovaných rozhovorů s učitelkami 2. stupně a středních škol. Cílem bylo zjistit, jakým způsobem pedagogové vyučují francouzskou výslovnost, a porovnání jejich zkušenosti s doporučovanými teoretickými postupy. Přidanou hodnotou této práce je povzbudit a inspirovat učitele francouzského jazyka k výuce výslovnosti.
