Influence of COVID-19 pandemic on consumer behavior in selected sectors of the shared economy

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce zkoumá fenomén sdílené ekonomiky na trhu v České republice, konkrétně spotřebitelské chování na trhu sdílené ekonomiky a jeho determinanty před a během pandemie COVID-19. Cílem práce je potvrdit hypotézu, že nejčastěji na trhu sdílené ekonomiky participují mladí lidé ve věku 20-29 let v obou zkoumaných obdobích. Hypotéza je zkoumána na trhu v České republice, data byla získána pomocí dotazníkového šetření a dále byla zpracována pomocí regresní analýzy. Hlavní zjištěním práce je negativní vztah mezi věkem a mírou participace na trhu sdílené ekonomiky v obou obdobích, jinými slovy se hypotézu podařilo prokázat. Z dalších demografických údajů se podařilo prokázat, že více využívali služeb sdílené ekonomiky obyvatelé z větších měst nad 50 tisíc obyvatel než z obcí a měst do 50 tisíc obyvatel. Dále také více participovali svobodní bezdětní lidé s vyšší měsíčním příjmem. Prokázalo se snížení využívání ve všech zkoumaných sektorech sdílené ekonomiky během pandemie COVID-19, v některých došlo k poklesu o více než 50 %. Hlavním přínosem této práce je lepší pochopení spotřebitelského chování participantů na trhu sdílené ekonomiky v České republice během pandemie COVID-19. Při pandemii došlo k velkému poklesu využívání, ale determinanty spotřebitelského chování se nijak významně oproti stavu před pandemií neliší.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis examines the phenomenon of shared economy in the market in the Czech Republic, specifically consumer behavior in the shared economy market and its determinants before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of this work is to confirm the hypothesis that most often young people aged 20-29 participate in the market of a shared economy in both studied periods. The hypothesis is examined on the market in the Czech Republic, the data were obtained using a questionnaire survey and were further processed using regression analysis. The main finding of the work is the negative relationship between age and the degree of participation in the market of a shared economy in both periods, in other words, the hypothesis was proved. Other demographic data showed that residents of larger cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants used the services of the shared economy more than municipalities and cities with less than 50,000 inhabitants. Furthermore, single childless people with a higher monthly income also participated more. There was a reduction in use in all sectors of the shared economy examined during the COVID-19 pandemic, with some declining by more than 50 %. The main benefit of this work is a better understanding of the consumer behavior of participants in the shared eonomy market in the Czech Republic during the COVID-19 pandemic. During the pandemic, there was a large decrease in use, but the determinants of consumer behavior do not differ significantly from the situation before the pandemic.
