Fashion as a tool of cohesion or differentiation among secondary school students

Abstract:

Hlavním prvkem této bakalářské práce je samotný empirický výzkum, který si kladl za cíl odpovědět na položenou otázku: Je móda nástrojem koheze či diferenciace mladých lidí v české společnosti? Ze získaných dat od dotazovaných respondentů ze středních škol v Plzni lze udělat následující závěry - ačkoliv jsou společenské skupiny, které se formují na základě stejného módního vkusu, více méně koherentní. Vůči jiným skupinám, které se identifikují s jiným módním vkusem jsou spíše kritické a k prolínání zde dle výpovědí respondentů nedochází. Jako jedním z důležitých ukazatelů, které rozdělují skupiny vybraných respondentů jsou jistě módní značky, ke kterým se určité skupiny staví pozitivně a některé skupiny odmítavě. Závěrem tedy mohu říct, že móda je z větší části nástrojem diferenciace u mladých lidí. Dalšími položenou otázkou, na kterou jsem se snažila nalézt odpověď bylo, zda v dnešní módě nalézají respondenti estetickou funkci. Z výsledků lze říci, že ano, ačkoliv ne v jednotlivých kusech oděvů, ale v tvůrčím procesu, který dělá z "ošklivých" módních trendů esteticky líbivé celky.

Abstract:

The main element of this bachelor's thesis is the empirical research itself, which aimed to answer the question: Is fashion a tool for cohesion or differentiation of young people in Czech society? From the data obtained from the interviewed respondents from secondary schools in Pilsen, the following conclusions can be drawn - although social groups, which are formed on the basis of the same fashion taste, are more or less coherent. They are rather critical of other groups that identify with a different fashion taste, and there is no intertwining here, according to the respondents. One of the important indicators that divides the groups of selected respondents are certainly fashion brands, to which certain groups are positive and some groups are negative. In conclusion, I can say that fashion is for the most part a tool for differentiation in young people. Another question I tried to answer was whether respondents find an aesthetic function in today's fashion. From the results it can be said that yes, although not in individual pieces of clothing, but in the creative process, which makes "ugly" fashion trends aesthetically pleasing.
