Research of meanings of the themes evoked by the PRVA method

Abstract:

Metoda PRVA (Phenomenological Reflection of Visual Artifact) je rozvíjející se nedirektivní fenomenologickou metodou využívající expozice vlastnímu výtvarnému artefaktu a následné reflexe vzniklé vzájemnosti (intersubjectivity) mezi autorem a jeho dílem na úrovni tělesně zakotveného prožívání. Zkoumanou problematikou této disertační práce jsou významy vynořující se ve vědomí reflektujícího při aplikaci PRVA. Tyto významy v podobě vynořených vnitřních prožitků situací (událostí) jsou cílovou kategorií PRVA a lze je chápat jako specifická témata individuální skutečnosti reflektujícího. Výzkumným problémem disertační práce je význam vyvstalých témat v souvislostech individuální skutečnosti reflektujícího. Vzhledem k povaze předmětu výzkumu je volen kvalitativní přístup. Výzkum je proveden na souboru vybraném prostým účelovým výběrem pro typ výzkumného plánu případová studie. Data byla získána aplikací PRVA a nestrukturovaným interview. Analýza dat byla provedena IPA (Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis).Disertační projekt odpovídá na tři základní výzkumné otázky: Jaké významy přikládá reflektující tématu, které se spontánně vynořilo při PRVA ve vztahu k osobní životní skutečnosti? Jaké společné charakteristiky mají témata vynořená z PRVA u jednotlivých případů? Jaké souvislosti má téma vynořené z PRVA a způsob zpracování tohoto tématu participantem? Výsledky výzkumu ukazují na to, že tématům evokovaným PRVA jsou participanty připisovány významy životních témat či trvalých stop po v minulosti prožitých událostech. Témata vynořená aplikací PRVA navíc vykazují svébytné dominantní pocitové charakteristiky, prokazující pevně vybudovanou emoční zkušenost. U některých případů byl identifikován vybudovaný způsob překonávání evokovaných situací.

Abstract:

The PRVA (Phenomenological Reflection of Visual Artifact) method is a developing and non-directive phenomenological method making use of the reflecting person’s exposition to his/her own graphic artefacts and the subsequent reflection of intersubjectivity created between the author and his work at the level of the experience somatically anchored in immersion. The investigated issues of this dissertation thesis are the meanings immersed in the reflecting person’s consciousness while carrying out PRVA. These meanings in the form of cropped up internal experiencing situations (events) are the target category of PRVA and can be understood as specific themes of the reflecting person’s individual reality. The research problem of this dissertation thesis can be defined as investigation of the importance of the themes emerged in connection with the reflecting person’s individual experience. Due to the character of the research subject matter, the qualitative approach has been selected for this research task. The research is made on the sample set selected by means of a simple and purposeful selection for the case study type of research plan. Its data have been selected by the PRVA application of the non-structured interview. Its data analysis has been made by the Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). This dissertation project responds to the following three basic research questions: What meanings does the reflecting person attribute/assign to the theme that were emerging spontaneously in the course of PRVA in relation to his/her personal life experience/reality? What are the common characteristic features of the themes emerging from PRVA in individual cases? What are the links and/or connections between the theme that emerged from PRVA and the manner of processing this theme by the participant? The research results show that the themes that emerged from PRVA are assigned the meanings of life themes or those of permanent traces of the events experienced in the past. In addition to that the themes emerged from PRVA show distinctive and dominant emotional characteristic features proving a firmly built up emotional structure. In some of the cases the research has identified firmly built up manner of overcoming the evoked situations.
