Death of a parent and childhood grief - reflection in adulthood

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá tématem procesu truchlení a vyrovnávání se se ztrátou blízké osoby u dětí mladšího školního věku. Na základě teoretické analýzy procesu truchlení v dětském věku bude realizován výzkum toho, jak dospělí, kteří v dětském věku zažili úmrtí rodiče, zpětně reflektují tuto ztrátu a proces vyrovnávání se s ní. Teoretická část sestává ze tří kapitol, které se věnují tématům ztráty blízké osoby, dětského pojetí smrti, procesu truchlení u dětí a procesu truchlení v pozůstalé rodině. Kvalitativní výzkum byl realizován pomocí polostrukturovaných rozhovorů. Polostrukturovaného rozhovoru se zúčastnilo celkem pět dospělých respondentů, konkrétně se jednalo o dvě ženy a tři muže, kterým v dětství zemřel jeden z rodičů. Výzkumné cíle se týkaly popisu procesu truchlení v dětském věku, komunikace o smrti v rodinách, negativních a pozitivních vlivů smrti rodiče a v neposlední řadě i zhodnocení celé zkušenosti z pozice již dospělého jedince. Všechny výzkumné otázky se podařilo zodpovědět a tím i úspěšně splnit výzkumné cíle.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the topic of mourning and bereavement in young children. Based on a theoretical analysis of the grieving process in childhood, research will be conducted on how adults who experienced the death of a parent in childhood retrospectively reflect on this loss and the process of coping with it. The theoretical part consists of three chapters dealing with the topics of bereavement, children's conception of death, grief in children and in the surviving family. Qualitative research was carried out through semi-structured interviews. A total of five adult respondents - two women and three men, participated in the research. The research goals concerned the description of the process of mourning in childhood, communication about death in families, the negative and positive effect of parental death and the evaluation of the experience. All research questions were answered and research goals were successfully met.
