Abstract:

Tato interdisciplinárně zaměřená práce se zabývá fenoménem společensky a environmentálně angažované ilustrace a komiksu, jejich tématy, cíli a strategiemi jejich tvůrců * tvůrkyň a také způsoby, jakými tito nad svými aktivitami přemýšlí. Hlavní výzkumná otázka této práce zní: Jaký společenský význam přisuzují angažovaní tvůrci mladé generace vizuální kultuře, potažmo kresbě a co podle toho dělají? Práce je rozdělená do čtyř hlavních kapitol, z nichž první je věnovaná definici základních pojmů "ilustrace" a "komiks" a shrnutí nejdůležitějších relevantních poznatků k tématu z literatury sedmi vědních disciplín: vizuálních studií, teorie vizuálního aktivismu, comics studies, teorie designu, sociologie kreativní třídy, historie ilustrace a komiksu a mediálních studií. Na základě těchto poznatků poté v druhé kapitole definuji vedlejší výzkumné otázky a z nich vyplývající strukturu výzkumných rozhovorů se společensky angažovanými ilustrátory a komiksovými tvůrci. Ty se týkají např. jejich vztahu k zodpovědné reprezentaci, veřejné viditelnosti ve vizuální kultuře či k vizuálním aktivismu. Vyhodnocovány jsou také strategie, cíle, témata a média šíření, které si angažovaní kreslíři pro své aktivity volí, nebo cílové skupiny, na které míří. Výsledky tematické analýzy těchto rozhovorů předkládá třetí kapitola. V závěrečné části práce porovnávám výsledky vlastního výzkumu s předběžnými hypotézami formulovanými na základě rešerše dostupné literatury.

Abstract:

This interdisciplinary work deals with the phenomenon of socially and environmentally engaged illustration and comics, their topics, goals and strategies of their creators, as well as the ways in which those think about their activities. The main research question of this thesis is: What social meaning do engaged creators of the young generation attribute to visual culture, i.e. drawing, and what do they do accordingly? The thesis is divided into four main chapters, the first of which is devoted to the definition of the basic terms "illustration" and "comics" and a summary of the most important relevant knowledge on the topic from the literature of seven scientific disciplines: visual studies, theory of visual activism, comics studies, design theory, sociology of creative class, history of illustration and comics, and media studies. On the basis of these findings, in the second chapter I define secondary research questions and the resulting structure of research interviews with socially engaged illustrators and comic creators. These relate, for example, to their relationship to responsible representation, public appearance in visual culture or to visual activism. The strategies, goals, topics and distribution media chosen by engaged illustrators for their activities, or the target groups they aim for, are also examined. The results of the thematic analysis of these interviews are presented in the third chapter. In the final part of the thesis, I compare the results of my own research with preliminary hypotheses formulated on the basis of the available literature.
