Comparison of Alternative Family Care and Institutional Care for Children with a History of CAN Syndrome

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou náhradní výchovy u dětí se syndromem CAN. Teoretická část je zpracována v pěti kapitolách. První kapitola se zaměřuje na syndrom CAN a je členěna do podkapitol, které se věnují jednotlivým kategoriím syndromu CAN. Druhá část popisuje specifika dětí se syndromem CAN, jež vznikají následkem poruchy vztahové vazby mezi matkou a dítětem a projevují se narušeným prožíváním a odlišnými projevy v chování dítěte. Následující kapitola popisuje proces začínající detekcí syndromu CAN, pokračující sociální prací s rodinou a končící odebráním dítěte z původního prostředí. Náhradní výchovu dítěte se syndromem CAN rozebírá čtvrtá kapitola práce, popisuje jednotlivé formy náhradní výchovy a především poukazuje na jejich pozitiva a negativa. Dilema rodina versus instituce řeší pátá kapitola postavená na souhrnu předností a nedostatků jednotlivých forem náhradní výchovy a podložená výroky několika autorů zabývajících se danou problematikou. Praktická část se prostřednictvím kvalitativního výzkumu, metodou případových studií zabývá hledáním výběrových kritérií, podle nichž bychom mohli usuzovat, která z variant náhradní výchovy je pro dítě se syndromem CAN vhodnější.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the problems of care for children with CAN syndrome. The theoretical part is divided into five chapters. The first chapter focuses on the CAN syndrome and is separated into subsections dedicated to each individual category of the CAN syndrome. The second chapter describes the specifics of children with the CAN syndrome, which is a failure of relationship ties between mother and child, and manifests itself by disrupted feelings and different behaviour in the child. The following chapter deals with the whole process, starting with the detection of the CAN syndrome, the social work with the family and finally the removal of the child from the original environment. The fourth chapter addresses the care of the child with the CAN syndrome by a foster family. It describes various forms of foster care and in particular points out the positives and the negatives. The dilemma of family versus institutional care is dealt with in the fifth chapter. It is based on a summary of the strengths and the weaknesses of various forms of foster care and is supported by statements made by various authors dealing with the issue. The practical part, completed by undertaking quality research of case studies, deals with the selection criteria by which we could conclude, which of the variants of foster care for a child with the CAN syndrome is the most appropriate.
