The Trap of Gender Stereotypes - The Attitude of Czech Women to Traditional Values of Marriage and Family Life

Anotace:

Diplomová práce Past genderových stereotypů aneb postoj českých žen k tradičním hodnotám manželství a rodiny je zaměřená na problematiku genderové stereotypizace a genderové asymetrie z pohledu dnešních českých žen. Zájem byl apriori akcentován na zjištění, jak ženy vnímají svoje postavení v tradičních společenských institucí jako je rodina, partnerství, manželství a rodičovství. V úvodní teoretické části se zabývám problematikou utváření genderové role v procesu genderové socializace, historickým vývojem genderových vztahů a problematikou genderové asymetrie na poli partnerství, profese a domácnosti. Významnou kapitolu tvoří problematika proměn genderových rolí v rámci české rodiny po roce 1989. Empirická část je vystavěna jako kvalitativní výzkumné šetření opřené o dvě výzkumné metody – ohniskovou skupinu a biografický výzkum. Cílem výzkumné části bylo zjištění a pochopení toho, jak dnešní české ženy vnímají svoje společenské postavení a to zejména na poli rodiny, partnerství a rodičovství.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis The Trap of Gender Stereotypes - The Attitude of Czech Women to Traditional Values of Marriage and Family Life is concerned with the issue of gender stereotyping and gender asymmetry from the point of view of present-day Czech women. The main point of interest was how women perceive their status in traditional social institutions such as family, partnership, marriage and parenthood. In the introductory theoretical part I am concerned with the issue of gender role creation in the process of gender socialization, with historical development of gender relations and with gender asymmetry in the areas of partnership, profession and household. The issue of changes in gender roles in Czech families after the year 1989 makes up an important part of the thesis. The empirical part is built up as qualitative research examination, based on two research methods – focus group and biographical research. The aim of this part was to find out and understand how Czech women perceive their social status, especially in the realms of family, partnership and parenthood.
